maltatoday | SUNDAY • 25 JULY 2021 14 COMMERCIAL Marsovin's first harvest is the chardonnay for its Cassar de Malte sparkling wine Art, musical and festive summer events at The Imperial Motors Inc unveils the brand new Hyundai Bayon MARSOVIN kicked off the 2021 grape har- vest with their first chardonnay grapes from the Wardija Valley Estate, making it one of the first vineyards to be harvested across Europe. All hand-picked to ensure grape bunch- es are handled with care, the chardonnay grapes from this estate will be used to pro- duce Marsovin's Cassar de Malte, Brut, a sparkling wine whose chardonnay require high acidity, which is why the grapes are cut earlier than any other. A high level of acidity in a sparkling wine made in the traditional method is crucial for the age maturation of quality sparkling wine. Marsovin harvests its grapes from their five privately owned estates around Malta and Gozo and over 200 contracted Maltese and Gozitan farmers. The harvest is a long one, starting in July and ending in beginning Oc- tober. Malta's favourable warm climate allows picking as early as July, whilst other coun- tries further north will wait till later in the summer for grape sweetness levels to be of an appropriate maturation. The harvest will carry on throughout the month of August with other white grape va- rieties pressed at the winery such as the Ver- mentino, Pinot Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Mosca- to, Trebbiano, and Sauvignon Gris. As of mid-August and well into September the winery will be welcoming the red varie- ties, including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Malbec, Grenache and the indigenous Ġellewża. The white indigenous variety Girgentina, a late ripener, is one of the last varieties har- vested, as late as mid-September. THE Imperial, the newly-opened residential care home in the heart of Sliema, is organis- ing an art exhibition of paintings by Godwin Cassar and Doranne Alden Caruana. The paintings will be showcased in the halls of the reception of the care home and come as an ad- dition to a series of social events The Imperial has been organising for its residents. The team at The Imperial, equipped with the two-decade-long experience of Casa Antonia, the sister home of the Sliema establishment, appreciate the importance of social and cultural events for the residents. Therefore, the current exhibition comes as an umpteenth addition to series of events organised by St George's Care, the operators of The Imperial and Casa Anto- nia. All the events organised recently are being held rigorously abiding by the most up-to-date Covid restrictions in place to ensure the health and safety of the residents and staff. The busy social calendar kicked off with a live musical event for the residents by cellist Desiree Calleja and violinist Stefan Calleja. The perfor- mance was held in the Princess Louise Gallery on the piano nobile of the Old Ville and was fol- lowed by cocktails and snacks on the large out- door terrace overlooking the gardens. At the beginning of July, The Imperial held the Festin Malti event for its residents, dur- ing which typical Maltese and Festa food was served, such as pastizzi, imqarret, helwa tat- Tork, and hot dogs. Dancers from the Paul Curmi Dance Company performed traditional Maltese choreography and The Happy Guitars Duo played Maltese and Italian songs. Melanie Jacobs, General Manager of The Imperial Sliema, said: "The social health and well-being of our residents are among our ut- most priorities at The Imperial. Therefore, we offer a diverse range of fulfilling and meaningful activities, as an interactive social life is essential for optimum functioning and independence." Godwin Cassar, an architect and planner by profession, spent an extensive career of 36 years in public service. He retired as the Di- rector-General of the Malta Environment and Planning Authority in 2009 and has spent his years since then polishing his painting and drawing skills. Doranne Alden Caruana, a professional art- ist, art tutor, graphic designer and fine art photographer, has spent almost four decades in the art world, focusing on the watercolour technique. For the last few years, Doranne has worked as a professional Art Tutor at the Wa- termill at Posara in Tuscany and regularly holds painting holidays and art workshops on the is- land of Gozo.
