maltatoday | SUNDAY • 8 AUGUST 2021 4 BOOKS Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival 2021 WHILE last year the Festival had to be limited to online events, this year Inizjamed will be organizing its sixteenth edi- tion at the open space that is Fort St Elmo. The Festival will be held on two nights, Friday, 27th, and Saturday, 28th Au- gust. Six authors have been invited to the Festival. Their origins and current places of resi- dence are diverse, however the Mediterranean will be their meeting point. They will also be joined by two singer- song- writersandresidentmusicians. COREGREENOrganic&Fair- Tradewillbe providingrefresh- ments. The invited authors' publications will be available for purchase at the bookstall run by Mallia & D'Amato. The invited authors of this edition are Ghayath Almad- houn, Miriam Calleja, Inua Ellams, Leanne Ellul, Katerina Iliopoulou, and John Portelli. Kym Pepe and Michael Azz- opardi are the invited singer- songwriters. The resident mu- sicians are Effie Azzopardi and Kenneth Sacco. Since attendance is limited, and since every attendee is to be registered, the event will be ticketed. Tickets are priced at €5 for every night and can be bought through www.show- shappening.com. A compli- mentary drink will be offered at the entrance. Readings will be mostly in Maltese and English, but some short works will also be read in their original lan- guage. Some readings will also be targeted to a mature audi- ence. This Festival is support- ed by Arts Council Malta. The Festival is also collaborating with Literature Across Fron- tiers, Creative Europe Desk (Malta), and Għaqda tal-Mal- ti – Università. This Festival has been given an interna- tional accreditation through the EFFE Europe for Festival, Festival for Europe trademark. The Festival is also part of the Phoenicians' Route recognised by the Council of Europe. The Festival logo and promotional material has been designed by Miguel Cachia (Panda). As part of the Festival, Leanne Ellul and John Portelli will be conducting online workshops with SkolaSajf students. The Maltese authors will also be the protagonists of a literary evening organised in collabo- ration with HELA Foundation as part of their project Raħal il-Letteratura. This project has the aim to promote literature in the town of Rabat, Malta. Security will be a priority. So- cial distance is to be strictly ob- served and the attendance will be limited.
