Thousands of Maltese and foreigners
took to the beaches this week in a
mad rush to beat the heat.
And even while swimming, some
could not do without their mobile.
The maximum temperature reached
42°C on Wednesday, prompting
the Meteorological Office to issue
a red alert warning as the Central
Mediterranean baked in hot weather.
The intense heat was caused
by a mass of high pressure that
extended from Algeria to the Central
Mediterranean, the Met Office said.
The temperature actually felt like 43°C
with northwesterly winds of between
force two and three and a UV Index
of 10.
In parts of neighbouring Sicily,
temperatures rose to as much as 45°C.
Temperatures in Malta started to drop
on Thursday to highs of 35°C, which
however still felt like 38°C.
Highs continued to drop on Friday
maxing out at 32°C, which felt like
35°C, with a wind speed of between
force two and three and a UV Index
of 9.
Keep cool (and
entertained?)
