maltatoday | SUNDAY • 22 AUGUST 2021 6 CULTURE Agħti Widen: a performance celebrating Malta's cultural identity THE Valletta Cultural Agency is presenting "Agħti Widen" (Take Heed), a spectacular produc- tion that combines a symphon- ic recital with a vibrant video backdrop featuring themes of Maltese ritual, nature, crafts and feasts. "Agħti Widen" shall be taking place at Pjazza Teatru Rjal on the 10th and 11th Sep- tember at 8pm. This project will take its au- dience on a journey through orchestral music and video projections ... as well as the au- thentic sounds of Malta inter- woven into a unique narrative. The sounds of crashing waves, Valletta bell towers, traditional crafts (and more) compliment the orchestration of the music enhanced by a display of stun- ning visuals. The orchestral score for "Agħti Widen" is composed by Ruben Zahra who is well re- nowned in the contemporary music scene of Malta. Besides composing the music, Zahra also directed the videography of the entire project with the support of a professional crew. "Agħti Widen" also features a script by Maltese writer Tre- vor Żahra interpreted by child actress, 11-year-old Kassidy Calleja. "Agħti Widen" features the participation of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of conductor Pav- el Šnajdr and KorMalta under the direction of choirmaster Riccardo Bianchi. FOLLOWING the successful production of the 13th Edition of Opera vs Pop Under the Stars by The Gozo Youth Orchestra held on Monday 2nd August, 2021 at the Gozo Ministry's Courtyard, Victoria, Gozo, it is now the sis- ter ensemble's turn – The Gozo Youth Wind Band – to pres- ent a spectacular concert titled Stage and Proms on the Sea. Youth musicians hailing from all over Gozo augmented with foreign and Maltese musicians are currently in full swing pre- paring the 6th Edition of Stage and Proms on the Sea. Stage and Proms on the Sea is reminiscent of London West-End shows and evergreen masterpieces from the Proms. The audience will be able to enjoy a galore of excerpts and medleys from musicals as also classic encores performed in Proms Final Night held at the Royal Albert Hall. Pop singers Ludwig Galea and Sarah Bonn- ici will be the accompanying the Gozo Youth Wind Band under the direction of its founder and musical director Mro Dr Joseph Grech.
