16 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 26 SEPTEMBER 2021 COMMERCIAL High-profile international speakers join EY malta's future realised week WITH many more names still to be announced, EY have an- nounced speakers from the World Economic Forum, World Bank, Microsoft, SAP, Bocco- ni University as well as several former European Prime Minis- ters. For over a decade, EY's Future Realised (formerly known as the Malta Attractiveness Event) has brought top international speakers to Malta to discuss key global and local business issues around investment, the econo- my, sustainability, and technol- ogy. With the event completely transformed into a virtual ex- perience taking place over four days, EY is taking the opportu- nity to bring more international content and make this a truly global forum once again. The speaker line-up this year includes three former European Prime Ministers; Yves Leterme (former Prime Minister of Bel- gium); Jan Peter Balkenende (former Prime Minister of the Netherlands); and Jan Krzysztof Bielecki (former Prime Minister of Poland), the latter two hav- ing also featured in previous editions. Dr Robert Abela and Dr Bernard Grech have also confirmed their participation. Other international speakers include: Gallina Vincelette, World Bank, Director for the European Union; Emily Bayley, World Economic Forum, Pro- ject Lead, ESG, Future of In- vesting; Valentina Ion, Micro- soft, Director Business Strategy; Tom Raftery, SAP, Global VP, Futurist, and Innovation Evan- gelist; and Catherine De Vries, Bocconi University, and many more still to be announced. They will be joined by leading local business leaders, academ- ics, and politicians to discuss their views on the challenges and opportunities being faced at both country and corporate level. This year's theme is one of optimism and possibility, "The future is in your hands", with each day focusing on dif- ferent topics. The opening day commences with an overview of the global economic landscape, followed by a focus on Mal- ta's current FDI attractiveness, COVID-19 recovery, and an ex- ploration of Malta reimagined. The second day focuses on in- novation, technology, and the future, with deep-dives into Malta's strong and well-estab- lished manufacturing sector, the future of e-health, and clean energy. The third day outlines the future of work, education and skills and closes with a dis- cussion by former world leaders on megatrends shaping indus- tries today. The final day looks at sustainability, bettering our built environment, and the role of the private sector in achieving long-term value for the Island. During the event, the results of the Malta Attractiveness Sur- vey, an annual study conducted among existing FDI companies in Malta, will outline current investors' sentiments on the impact of the COVID-19 crisis, Malta's strengths, weaknesses and where we should be focus- ing our efforts. The Attractive- ness Survey is led by Simon Bar- beri, EU Consulting Director. The EY Generate Youth Survey will also be presented, outlin- ing the views of Millennials and Generation-Z on COVID-19, the economy, and their future in Malta. The 100 tons mark was reached during a week-long underwater clean-up activity at the Manoel Island Marina, where a total of 9,200 kgs of material were collected. These consisted of 233Kgs of plastic, 357Kgs of ropes and fishing gear, 1,139Kgs of glass, 1,098kgs of metal 867Kgs of mixed waste and 5,506kg of tyres. The activity, which culminat- ed on World Clean-Up Day, was sponsored by Pragmatic Play and organized in collabo- ration with MIDI and the Gzira Local Council. The activity forms part of the Saving Our Blue campaign organised by Zibel. The activity started earlier this week with an underwater survey of the sea surrounding Manoel Island, where it was de- cided to concentrate all efforts in the Marina, which needed most clearing up due to various industrial activities that have taken place in the past in this area. The material collected from the seabed mostly con- sisted of tyres of various sizes which in the past were often used as fenders.
