maltatoday | SUNDAY •3 OCTOBER 2021 7 CULTURE Brian Schembri plays Schubert's Sonata in B flat D960 AS part of the Valletta Cultur- al Agency's 2021 cultural pro- gramme, The Strada Stretta Concept is collaborating with one of Malta's foremost musi- cians: pianist and conductor Bri- an Schembri. The event, which forms part of The Strada Stretta Concept programme under the artistic direction of Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci, will take place over the 15th and 16th October 2021. Each performance begins at 20:00 and will be held at The Splendid in Strait Street, Val- letta. During this evening ded- icated to the last year of Schu- bert's life, Brian Schembri will be performing Schubert's So- nata in B flat D960, after giving a short introduction about the composer. This piano sonata famous- ly forms part of Schubert's last three piano sonatas, all of which are interconnected through style and movement, and which garnered newfound admiration in the twentieth century. Interestingly, Schu- bert is known to have been a profound admirer of Beethov- en's compositions, which may explain the strong influence Beethoven had on him. To this extent, Schembri's 2021 performance will serve as a continuation from his 2020 performance at the Splendid, entitled Splendid Beethoven at Splendid, wherein he per- formed Beethoven's Ham- merklavier. For these reasons, Strait Street will once again evoke a merging of high cul- ture with the accessibility of popular culture, a task which forms part of the project's ar- tistic direction under Schembri Bonaci. Entrance is free, but booking is imperative. Kindly book a place by contacting info@vca. gov.mt or call on +356 2124 2018. Please note that due to the current situation, all at- tendees must be fully vacci- nated, and are to wear a mask and maintain social distanc- ing throughout. Vaccination certificates will be scanned upon entrance. More infor- mation on the event can be found on The Strada Stretta Concept and Valletta Cultur- al Agency pages on Facebook. 'DIN hi li hi' is an art exhibi- tion by Patrick Dalli being held at il-Kamra ta' Fuq, in Mqabba, under the curation of Melanie Erixon from Art Sweven. The exhibition title encapsu- lates it all. It is what it is. In this exhibition, Dalli, is presenting his real self and his love for the nude painting and the human figure. The exhibition is proposing a selection of drawings that por- tray the freshness and crispness of his style - from drawings and 'primi pensieri' to beautifully finished works - all executed during sittings with models. It's all about the human figure, the austere use of the line, the spontaneity, the rapid strokes and the shrewdly applied dabs of paint. As with Dalli's large- scale nudes, there is no sexu- al tension present, and these drawings illustrate his creative process. The figures are in their own parallel world and there is no inkling of any desired inter- action with the viewer. Some of the works feature a playful composition created entirely by the figure or figures and the void on the paper. The majority of the artworks forming this intimate exhibi- tion are executed in charcoal, ink and watercolour along with a few 'oil on canvas' works, that hint at Dalli's more known large-scale nudes, where the painterly work takes over and the works are deprived of any props. Nothing distracts from the main subject, that is the human figure. It is what it is. This is the first exhibition by Dalli, which is being held in Malta after 11 years. Dal- li's latest exhibitions have been held in Italy, San Marino and Germany. In 2015, the major exhibition DERMOGRAFIE under the curation of Gianluca Marziani was held in Spoleto and San Marino, followed by another major exhibition IL NUDO NELL'ARTE, held in Bergamo, in 2019. He was also part of the collective exhibition 'ART Prize CBM – Premio Car- lo Bonatto Minella', in 2015, held under the coordination of Vittorio Sgarbi. In 2018, he took part in the collective exhi- bition A BREATH OF ART, in Hamburg. 'Din hi li hi' will run from the 17th September till the 12th October 2021. Open dai- ly from 6am till noon. More evening opening hours per week will be announced on the Facebook page: 'il-Kamra ta' Fuq'. Il-Kamra ta' Fuq hosts artist Patrick Dalli
