Josephine's welcomes its guests for an innovative menu of mouth-watering coffees, sandwiches and bakes prepared using only the finest plant- based ingredients. Devoted to sustainability and to creating consciousness via a well-crafted and curious menu, Josephine's brings plant-based gourmet to coffee lovers, in keeping with Corinthia Palace's exceptionally high standards. "At Josephine's, guests will experience products on par with non-plant-centric foods," explains Alexandra Pisani, Ho- tel Manager at the Corinthia Palace. "We want to offer our vegan and non-vegan guests an opportunity to sample cof- fees and treats prepared with Corinthia's signature commit- ment to quality, which will also contribute to the wellbeing of the planet. This is something that is both different and will make a difference." The coffee shop has been shaped around a coffee brand that is new to Malta. As one of the UK's leading speciality cof- fee roasters, Origin Coffee is an independently owned com- pany that is Certified B Corp (a gold standard certification that measures a company's so- cial and environmental perfor- mance). Origin is bound by one central ethos: to source excep- tional coffee from across the globe through a sustainable, triple bottom line approach. The B Corp certification is an important validation of who Origin is and what it does, and also validates Corinthia Pal- ace's choice in partnering with Origin for Josephine's. From the scrupulous quality con- trols in sourcing the best coffee beans directly from farmers, through a preparation process that ensures the perfect extrac- tion of coffee for each brew carried out by specially trained baristas, Origin offers an ex- citing coffee journey that ends with the perfect cup. While the top-quality range of non-dairy milks complete the coffee selection at Josephine's, the indulgent menu of carefully crafted sandwiches and bakes showcases the award-winning skills of the Corinthia chefs as they experiment with new creations, regularly changing flavours such as pistachio, cit- rus, orange blossom or coco- nut that will delight the senses. Other plant-based ingredients including dates, pulses, oats, barley and heritage grains with the use of dairy-free chocolate will all come together in the creation of a delectable choice of cakes, pastries and treats; while the sandwiches include mouth-watering fillings such as Lemon Verbena Pesto, Charred Aubergines & Black Sesame Hummus and Rose Harissa, Creamed Tofu, Pea Tartar & Asparagus. Guests can now experience this new fusion of flavour, excellence, ethics and sustainability inside the intimate setting of Jose- phine's or surrounded by the lush greenery of the garden oa- sis at Corinthia Palace. Corinthia Palace launches speciality coffee concept Steward Health Care Malta marks breast cancer awareness month STEWARD Health Care Malta marked Breast Cancer Aware- ness Month in its hospitals in Gozo and Malta throughout the month of October, known also as Pink October. According to the Action for Breast Cancer Foundation Malta, breast can- cer is one of the most com- mon cancers in women but it can also affect men. In Malta, 343 adults are diagnosed with cancer a year. While the caus- es are not yet fully understood, research shows that you can lower the risk of developing the disease by minimising life- style and environmental risk factors and improve outcomes through breast screening and early detection. Steward Mal- ta has once again supported breast cancer awareness and promoted efforts that help fight and prevent breast cancer. As part of the symbolic gesture of "going pink" throughout October in support of breast cancer patients and their fam- ilies, the hospital façades were lit up in pink and promotional and educational materials were made available in the hospi- tals' reception and clinical are- as. The Occupational Therapy Department – Physical Section and the Mental Health Occu- pational Therapy Service col- laborated to raise awareness on breast cancer amongst pa- tients and staff at Gozo Gener- al Hospital (GGH). October al- so happens to be International Occupational Therapy Month and, therefore, service users were also involved in the pro- duction of keepsakes with the assistance of the occupational therapy staff. The foyer was decorated with props which were hand made with a lot of care and attention by service users attending Mental Health Occupational Therapy Servic- es at GGH. Pink ribbons were hand made by the elderly resi- dents during their occupation- al therapy sessions. Pink breast awareness t-shirts were distrib- uted to various departments and were worn throughout the month whilst pink-branded pens where used in the hospi- tals. Pink-flowered plants, which were decorated by patients during occupational therapy sessions, were distributed to each department and section at GGH as a sign of remem- brance and to celebrate breast cancer survivors. In addition, a plant sale was organised by Steward Malta to collect funds for the Action for Breast Cancer Foundation. The lat- ter sponsored complimentary bras and other items to GGH's breast cancer patients. An ed- ucational seminar, which was also available online, was held in the auditorium of Barts and the London School of Medicine (QMUL) with the theme "Are we breast aware?" The event was introduced by Josianne Bicker, breast care nurse at GGH and was followed by a presentation on factors that reduce breast cancer, delivered by breast consultant Mr. John Aguis. Dr Pamela Portelli, a senior psychologist, focussed on the psychological implica- tions of breast cancer. Radiog- rapher Josianne Buttigieg out- lined Malta's breast screening programme and Clare Busut- til, Secretary of Europa Donna and a metastatic breast cancer advocate, shared the patient's journey and the importance of the multidisciplinary team for such care.
