maltatoday | SUNDAY • 14 NOVEMBER 2021 17 COMMERCIAL Academics from top UK sport university observe Maltese coaches in action FinanceMalta resumes participation in face-to-face international events MALTESE sport coaches in various disciplines following a Master's degree programme in international sport coaches, had the opportunity to be observed during their coaching sessions by senior lecturers from one of the top universities in the UK for sport – Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU). The students are currently stud- ying on the new MSc Interna- tional Sport Coaching, designed and run by the University in con- junction with Learning Works, a further and higher education institution in Malta. The blended programme includes two inten- sive contact weeks, one each se- mester, in Malta. The MSc International Sport Coaching is designed to allow stu- dents to explore a range of topics, including athlete learning, talent development processes, physical and psychological training pro- grammes, performance analysis and social relationships in coach- ing. The course content informed by the latest research and best practice in sport coaching from LJMU's School of Sport and Exer- cise Sciences While studying they have the opportunity to work on their your own career development with support from LJMU's tutors and leading guest lectures from the field of sport coaching. They will also conduct a research project on a topic of their choice, supervised by LJMU staff. During their stay in Malta the University's lecturers had the op- portunity to meet various stake- holders in the sport sector in Mal- ta from Sport Malta, the Malta Olympic Committee, MCAST and the Malta Football Associa- tion. They also delivered a lectur- er to MCAST students following sport-related courses. One of the lecturers, Dr Nicola Robinson had the opportunity to share the results of a study carried out in the UK on youth athletes during an open evening organized at Learning Works' Training Hub in Qormi. Learning Works is currently of- fering a number of other sport-re- lated courses in a range of topics including sport management, sport psychology and sport nu- trition. Apart from running its further and Higher education academy Learning Works is also currently preparing to open the first private sport school in Malta – The Mediterranean College of Sport - in Birkirkara as from 2023. FINANCEMALTA has resumed its programme of participation in face-to-face international events, following a period dur- ing which, inevitably, the entity only took part in events online due to the pandemic. In the last quarter of 2021, Fi- nanceMalta and its members will be participating and hav- ing speakers in nine industry and networking events in Eu- rope and the Middle East with the aim of promoting Malta as an international financial centre. During the first weeks of November alone, Finance- Malta already took part in four high-profile in-person interna- tional events covering Fintech, Wealth Management and In- surance. On 2 and 3 November, Fi- nanceMalta participated in the New Statesman Fintech Sum- mit, held in London, as official panel sponsor of the summit. Thought leaders and senior fig- ures within the financial servic- es industry presented key top- ics on regulations, technologies and trends that are shaping the world of Fintech. The GCC Family Investor An- nual Summit, held in Dubai on 3 and 4 November, brought to- gether the most eminent and respected family investment groups from across the Gulf Co- operation Council region. A key event was the European Captive Forum, held on 9 and 10 November in Luxembourg. It was a great opportunity for the European captive industry to come together in-person for the first time in many months. Running across three content streams, the agenda was packed with case studies, practical in- sights and actionable delivera- bles - covering the biggest in- dustry themes and topics. On the same days, FinanceMal- ta participated in the Family Of- fice Forum, held in Zurich, with over 100 Swiss-based and inter- national family offices and ultra- high-net worth individuals "Following a period of time during which we could only participate in events virtually, we are glad to finally be able to provide our esteemed members with the opportunity to par- ticipate and network in pres- tigious international events, which is at the heart of what FinanceMalta does.
