13 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 17 NOVEMBER 2021 OPINION Ivan Bartolo Ivan Bartolo is a Member of Parliament for the Nationalist Party IF we wish to have a just society, we must pull our socks up and stop giving names and looking at people whether they are caucasian or dark-skinned. We must for- get all that divides us. However, I cannot keep my mouth shut with all the things that are going on around us. What motivates a person to do this? To do good, even at the expense of suffering or being called names or in- sulted from fellow Maltese citizens like me on social media. Personally, I say it is so easy to tap from behind a mobile or laptop. More and more if you are hid- ing behind a fake profile, or more so if your job is to monitor everything that is said on social media and attack a person and commit character assassination on them. People of good will, without any fear, and without giving up continue working on having a just society. People of good will continue to update the social vision in the face of the social challenges of our time. Among other things, improved wages, and a better quality of life. In every corner one will see signs of progress, like high-rise concrete build- ings, which will also be sold at extreme- ly high prices. However, never has man found himself in such a state of isolation and endless drought. It was a collective move, and this is because the Govern- ment's policy does not address a just so- ciety, it does not address the solidarity Malta that I know. All this is the result of a government made up of human beings who burden themselves with chains of scandals, bribes, and conflicts of self-interest. Thus, these people cast a heavy shadow with a majority of disillusioned Maltese who voted for the change of Govern- ment, but over time realized that they did not vote for the common good. It changed the façade perhaps, but as said, history repeats itself, like in the 80's , but this time in a more subtle way. Un- fortunately, they served the partisan and the individual and selfish interests and put human dignity aside. They put aside the coat of arms of the Republic of Malta. They have managed to put politics and politicians in a crisis of confidence, they have managed to break social harmony again, they have managed to revive the scenario of the rich enjoying themselves and the poor fighting to keep up to try and live a decent life. They have suc- ceeded in increasing the proportion of those who are not far from poverty in the study and widening the gap between rich and poor. They have managed to increase this with clear signs of political discrimina- tion and widen the rift with the same Maltese because they embrace different beliefs. They have managed to rekindle a political bonfire and influence people to hate. But they have all the power and the person who used to make a hate- filled programme every day in the nine- ties, has recently started doing once a week. In that hour he manages to dish out all the hate towards the members of the opposition. Everything you see and touch, despite the beauty that strikes the eye, is taint- ed with corruption, from the buildings to the beautiful and most comfortable streets. Few understand that the envi- ronmental challenge is not just a matter of good policies and effective enforce- ment. The Nationalist Party, the social jus- tice party, has always embraced the cul- ture of solidarity, that of caring for each other. We do not look at these challeng- es and their protagonists as unfortunate and forgotten, but we see what actions need to be taken, with knowledge and resources to build a just society. In addition, we educate on the distri- bution of money. We integrate those who have left the community (for one reason or another) and we do our best to bring them into the community. We give proper attention to those who are suffering from a long-term illness situ- ation. There is a list of people who are going through great challenges in their lives, who as you will see, are a priority on the list of proposals of the Nationalist Party. If we want a just society, we must roll up our sleeves and not close our eyes to all that is happening before us. If we want a just society we must talk, even if sometimes it is not in your nature to talk about the shortcomings of our Mal- tese brothers. If we want justice in our country, we need to show courage and stand up and make our voices heard. If we stop writing, the corrupt will win. If we stop talking, the corrupt will keep going. If we give up and show a sense of fear, the corrupt will continue to destroy our country. And finally, a word to those who are genuine, but discouraged by politics and politicians, "if we do not go to the polls the corrupt will win." If we stop writing, the corrupt will win
