maltatoday | SUNDAY • 5 DECEMBER 2021 4 THEATRE Spectacular end-of year variety show by Malta's leading artistes 60 leading Maltese artistes in music, musical theatre, dance, comedy, mentalism and circus will celebrate the return of the live arts in a variety show at the Mediterranean Conference Centre on the 29th and 30th December. Malta Spectacular 2021 will star Ira Losco, Destiny, tenor Cliff Zammit Stevens and The New Victorians with resident band the Big Band Brothers. The show will also include comedy by show host Kevin Naudi and Edward Mercieca who returns as the traditional panto dame with Dame Vak- sinata. Musical theatre acts will feature Dorothy Bezzina and members from the cast of Sister Act: The Musical and highlights from musicals will be performed by Rachel Fabri, Raphael Pace, Damian Buha- giar and Studio 18. The chore- ographic precision of Concept of Movement, circus artist Matthias Camilleri and men- talist Michael Mock complete the line-up of artists and gen- res presented together for the first time in one show. 'The idea of Malta Spectacu- lar emerged from our conver- sations with artists during the past months. Their desire and motivation to return to a grand live performance, together with the public's enthusiasm to attend a live show in a safe environment, inspired us to co-create a show that brings diverse artists and audienc- es together', said Toni Attard, creative producer of Udjenza and co-producer of the show. "Malta Spectacular shall be another enjoyable event for all families during the festive peri- od. It is another opportunity to have on stage our local talent providing a spectacle hosted at Malta's historic, Mediter- ranean Conference Centre. I wish all performers best of luck for another memorable event in Malta's cultural events cal- endar," outlined Minister for Tourism and Consumer Pro- tection Clayton Bartolo. Howard Keith Debono, co-producer of the show said that 'the vision behind Malta Spectacular is to bring togeth- er artists and diverse genres that may not usually feature together, thus allowing new collaborations to emerge. Mal- ta Spectacular will be a unique opportunity for diverse audi- ences to experience different genres." Mary-Ann Cauchi Director of Funding and Strategy at Arts Council Malta said, "Mal- ta Spectacular is supported by Arts Council Malta through the RESTART schemes 2021. This public investment aims at bolstering the local culture sector challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. The support directly addresses the recovery and resilience of the cultural and creative sectors at large". Malta Spectacular will have reduced seating capacities with 3 separate clusters, each having separate entrances and facilities. All COVID-19 proto- cols for seated events as issued by the Department of Public Health will be observed. Audiences must present an approved COVID-19 vaccine certificate and children un- der 12 years of age can attend without a PCR Test if accom- panied by a vaccinated parent/ guardian.
