maltatoday | SUNDAY • 12 DECEMBER 2021 7 CULTURE Christmas with The New Choral Singers THE annual seasonal concert "Musical Tidings" presented by The New Choral Singers is be- ing held on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 December 2021 at St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral, Vallet- ta. Directed by Mauro Farru- gia, the choir, which counts 50 choristers will be singing a selection of traditional Christ- mas carols over the masterful accompaniment on the organ by world-renowned British conductor, organist and pianist Wayne Marshall who became principal guest conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, in 2007. Marshall was also chief con- ductor of the WDR Funkhaus Orchestra Cologne from 2014 to 2020, and in 2021 he was hon- oured with an OBE (Order of the British Empire) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. As the most beautiful time of the year reaches its peak, The New Choral Singers will be tak- ing its audience to the timeless atmosphere of the traditional Christmas carols such as "Hark! The Herald Angels sing" and "Ninni la tibkix izjed". The polyphonic arrangements curated by Mauro Farrugia and the virtuosity of the Maestro Wayne Marshall will make you feel part of the concert as the audience will be encouraged to sing along with the choir and the organ accompaniment the most famous and traditional congregational carols. A truly heart-warming experience for people of all ages. Entrance is free of charge and no reservation is required. How- ever, a retiring collection will be held at the end of both perfor- mances in aid of the Pro-Cathe- dral itself. Both concerts start at 7.30pm though it is recommended to ar- rive early to secure a seat. In line with current protocol, attendees must be fully vacci- nated and masks are to be worn throughout the performance. Children under the age of twelve must be accompanied at all times.
