Thake did not dis- pute assertions by MaltaToday that his company Mal- tashopper Ltd, a s u c c e s s f u l stockist of Ikea and M a i s o n s du Monde f u r n i t u r e , is facing an assess- ment for over €550,000 in moneys owed to the VAT department. The revelations come a week since it was revealed that Thake's other com- pany, Vanilla Telecoms, owed some €270,000 in unpaid VAT, which is now part of a repay- ment plan with the authorities. Thake is sole shareholder in both Mal- t a s h o p - per and V a n i l l a T e l e - coms. Contacted yesterday, Thake said he had tak- en action "many months ago" to appoint new com- pany auditors and engage new persons responsible for compiling Maltashop- per's financial accounts. "All overdue accounts will be filed this month. Of course, all the relevant penalties for this admin- istrative failure will be paid in full." Thake did not deny that Maltashopper owed over €550,000 in VAT, but insisted that all his dues were tax-deferred under the government's COVID scheme. MARCELLINE NAUDI KURT SANSONE THE former Labour MP Silvio Grixti is refusing to acknowl- edge repeated requests for comment, on allegations of fraudulent certifications used by patients attempting to be 'boarded out' of government work.
