maltatoday | SUNDAY • 13 FEBRUARY 2022 6 DANCE ŻfinMalta's much anticipated annual show returns ŻFINDAYS is an annual pro- gramme of short works by cho- reographers currently in the spotlight on the international dance stage. Introduced in 2019 by ŻfinMalta's Artistic Director Paolo Mangiola, ŻfinDays has become one of the company's signature programmes, giving ŻfinMalta's company dancers, and its audiences, access to the extraordinary diversity of talent on the European choreographic scene. In 2022 we are thrilled to pres- ent a new commission by the London-based, Greek artist Georgia Tegou, alongside the re- staging of a work by Italian artist Francesca Pennini and her col- lective, CollettivO CineticO. Ochre, Georgia Tegou (Athens/ London) Choreographer, Creative Di- rector, and performer Georgia Tegou meets ŻfinMalta to cre- ate a new work traversing histo- ry and memory, ancient wisdom and mysticism. Ochre is an ode to the Venus of Malta, her discovery in the dark catacombs, and her ascension to light. The female figure's com- ing to life is followed, leading us through her movement in a transitory, in-between space. Tegou's work has been com- pared to Guillermo del Toro's fantastical universes, and has been praised for its ability to challenge audiences. Complemented by Andrew Borg Wirth's set & costume design, an original score by Li- ran Donin, and light design by Moritz Zavan Stoeckle, Ochre is sure to enthrall and intrigue. How to destroy your dance, Francesca Pennini / CollettivO CineticO (Italy) Pennini's How to destroy your dance is both a choreography and a game, as it sets out to explore the body's limits, and break every rule of choreograph- ic decorum through impossi- ble acceleration and extreme slow-motion. Pennini and CollettivO Cinet- icO ask us to question our con- cept of time, and how our body functions within it. Through their work, dancers wrestle with relativity as all artifice is stripped and laid bare. How to destroy your dance boldly shocks and fascinates, leaving audiences mesmerised with the dualism between nat- ural body gestures and the es- tablished grammar of choreog- raphy. This second work is comple- mented by Moritz Zavan Stoeck- le's light design and Holly Know- les' costumes, and is supported by the Italian Cultural Institute of Valletta. ZfinMalta acknowledges the support of the Ministry for Na- tional Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, and Arts Council Malta. ZfinMalta is proudly supported by VBL Group. Photos: Marija Grech
