LUKE VELLA
NATIONALIST candidate Jason Azzopardi
failed to make it to Parliament during Tues-
day's casual elections.
Azzopardi was contesting the two ninth dis-
trict seats vacated by Joe Giglio and Robert
Arrigo.
In a Facebook post after the vote was con-
firmed, Azzopardi vowed to continue working
for "truth and justice", and said people would
eventually understand why he was attacked
and why he was an uncomfortable presence.

16 people were injured, 10 of them with gunshot wounds and the rest from smoke inhalation and
shrapnel wounds, after a shooting at a subway station in New York City on Tuesday. The attacker,
who wore a green construction vest and grey sweatshirt, fled the scene. The attack happened at
around 8:30am local time during rush hour when police responded to an emergency call after one
of the carriages of a train arriving at Brooklyn station filled with smoke. During a press conference,
police said the incident is not being investigated as an act of terrorism but a motive has not been
established. "Fire personnel responding to reports of smoke at the 36th Street station in the Sunset
Park neighbourhood found multiple people shot and undetonated devices," a Fire Department
spokesperson said earlier. Photographs shared on social media from the scene show people
tending to passengers covered in blood lying on the floor of the station.
