4 NEWS 14.4.2022 DURING the first quarter of 2022, sea transport between Malta and Gozo registered increases in trips, passen- gers and vehicles when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2021. Between January and March 2022, a total of 9,402 trips were carried out, carrying a total of 1,029,237 passen- gers. March was the busiest month recording a total of 3,592 trips or 38.2 per cent of total trips for the quarter. Sea transport between Mgarr and Cirkewwa A total of 961,978 passengers trav- elled between Mġarr and Ċirkewwa during the first quarter of 2022, an increase of 35.3 per cent when com- pared to the corresponding quarter of 2021. The highest number of passengers was recorded in March - 348,171 or 36.2 per cent of the total for the quar- ter. When compared to the previous year, the number of vehicles increased by 20.6 per cent, totalling 406,285. The number of trips during the first quarter amounted to 7,883, an in- crease of 28.4 per cent over the same period in 2021. March registered the highest num- ber of trips - 3,012 or 38.2 per cent of total trips for the quarter. During January-March 2022, both passenger and vehicle traffic origi- nating from Ċirkewwa was busiest on Fridays and Saturdays. On the other hand, from the Mġarr terminal, pas- senger traffic was highest on Sundays and Saturdays, while the highest num- ber of vehicles were recorded on Sun- days and Mondays. Sea transport between Mgarr and Valletta During the first quarter of 2022, a total of 1,519 trips were carried out carrying a total of 67,259 passengers. Administrative data provided by Job- splus show that, over a period of one year, the labour supply (excluding part-timers) in November 2021 in- creased by 3.1 per cent, reaching 244,512 (see methodological note 5). is was mainly attributed to a year- on-year increase in the full-time reg- istered employment (9,165) and a de- crease in registered unemployment (1,722). Registered full-time employment When November 2021 is compared to November 2020, the highest increase in employment was brought about by the construction sector (NACE 41- 43) and the accommodation and food services activities (NACE 55-56), with 1,313 and 1,153 persons respectively. Registered full-time employment in the private sector went up 8,149 per- sons to 191,618. Public sector full-time employment increased by 1,016 per- sons to 51,718. e number of persons registered as full-time self-employed rose by 1,115 when compared to November 2020, while the number of persons registered as employees increased by 8,050. Full- time employment for males and females went up by 3.5 per cent and 4.5 per cent respectively over 2020 levels. Registered part-time employment Registered part-time employment in November 2021 increased by 9.7 per cent when compared to the same month in 2020. Professional, scientific and technical activities (NACE 69-75) followed by the accommodation and food services activities (NACE 55-56) recorded the highest increases in part-time employ- ment with 999 and 789 persons respec- tively. e number of part-timers who also held a full-time job amounted to 36,132 up by 13.5 per cent, when compared to the corresponding month in 2020. Em- ployed persons whose part-time job was their primary occupation totalled 33,312, up by 5.9 per cent when com- pared to the same month in 2020.
