maltatoday | SUNDAY • 24 APRIL 2022 5 CULTURE Merjen, the first Maltese miniseries to be streamed in US, to show at Eden Cinemas FROM the producers of Lime- stone Cowboy, Evangelisti and Deceduti, Abigail Mallia and Carlos Debattista's three part series MERJEN is the first Mal- tese series to be released on an international platform, MHz Choice - a US platform dedicat- ed to international TV series. To celebrate, Take//Two will premiere MERJEN as a feature film at Eden Cinemas, on Fri- day 13th May 2022 at 8:30pm, which also includes an exclu- sive Q&A with the main cast & producers. The film will then open for regular screenings on the 18th May. The project, directed by Ab- igail Mallia, is supported by Arts Council Malta and is based upon the winner of the Francis Ebejer prized play writ- ten by playwright Salvu Mallia, and stars Claire Magro, Fabio Mifsud, Analise Mifsud, Tania Schembri and Fiona Cauchi. MERJEN is a contemporary adaptation based upon a vi- cious murder that happened a 100 years ago in Malta's cap- ital, Valletta. Adapted to to- day's day and age, MERJEN is a heart-wrenching story about life, domestic violence and motherhood through the eyes of three women: Merjen, Jane and Gracie. Merjen is suitable only for an 18+ audience. The film is very raw in nature. It ex- plores the themes of loss and self-destruction, as Merjen, a reluctant mother, discovers the true connection with her child only when she loses him. Ticket sales from Eden Cin- emas for the premiere on 13th May are now open and availa- ble through the following link: Eden Cinemas. Claire Magro as Merjen TEATRU Malta and Moveo Dance Company are welcom- ing guests to a banquet of earthly delights, a dinner that is by no means the average feast. This event marks the first time the company will be staging a dance-theatre-banquet that is centred around the art of im- provisational theatre in an ac- tual restaurant. Directed by popular improv practitioner Simone Ellul, with music by Albert Garzia, quin- tessential theatrical formulas are not to be expected during this performance which will last an hour and take up the entirety of the second course portion of this three-course meal at Bac- chus restaurant in Mdina. This production also brings about the first collaboration between the national theatre company and Moveo Dance Company, with movement direction being entrusted to Moveo's own Artistic Director Dorian Mallia. Moveo compa- ny director Diane Portelli, will also be performing in the show, together with the Moveo com- pany dancers, actor Sean Briffa and actress Antonella Axisa. The show is entirely dependent on its audience, who will guide the direction and the narrative of the performance as the meal progresses. A lively performance that is not to be missed, within the il- lustrious Bacchus Banquet Hall in Mdina, this is by no means an average Friday night out. Dur- ing this dinner, the guests im- merse themselves in the show, and with a deliciously prepared meal and free flowing wine, this performance is truly a first of its kind for Teatru Malta. Etikett, is strictly 18+ and will premiere on Friday 29 April for one night only, with the inten- tion of touring in the months to come. Doors will open at 7.30pm, and guests must all be seated by 8pm. Single tickets cost €60.00 and a group ticket for four costs €200.00, saving you €10.00 on each ticket if purchased as a group ticket.
