maltatoday | SUNDAY • 8 MAY 2022 10 COMMERCIAL The most valuable lessons in investing IN life, saving money is vital, but it is only one piece of the puzzle. Investing is a good way to put one's money to work and po- tentially grow one's wealth as it is never too late for one to start investing. Medina Asset Management is an investment company li- censed by MFSA. Medina's mission is to protect and grow the wealth of its clients. This is achieved by helping families and businesses to save and in- vest wisely, whilst always put- ting them and ethics first. Christiana Teuma will provide a thorough explanation of the fundamental financial concepts used in finance. The definitions of individual stocks and bonds will be followed by an explana- tion of a portfolio of funds. She will outline the current events in the financial market, such as high inflation, rising interest rates, and the effects of the on- going war in Ukraine. She says: "Achieving long-term financial objectives entails embracing the risk-reward trade-off and comprehending the historical dynamics of various types of in- vestments". The salient takeaways from this session will be covered by Ann Marie Lia, where she will go through the main principles for investment success. To have a better chance at investment success, one has to focus on what s/he can control. It is very easy, and very tempt- ing, to just focus on the market, the performance of individual funds, or the economy, which can lead one to overlook the basic principles of investment success. Lastly, Professor Falzon will provide a brief history of the stock market, covering market uptrends and declines while highlighting the critical lessons of investing which is the fun- damental message of this BNI Business Briefing. One has to keep in mind that many of the market declines of the last decades are becoming faded memories and long-term investors know that the mar- ket and the economy general- ly recover over time. To give a real-life example, during the 2008 financial decline, the US market declined 48% and many investors sold off their hold- ings. However, after the mar- ket bottomed in March 2009, it eventually recovered to its for- mer levels and well beyond. In fact, between the beginning of the bull market in March 2009 and the end of January 2022, the US stock market increased 6.4 times (15.4% increase per annum), which means that for every €100,000 invested in March 2009, this would have grown to €640,000 by the end of January 2022. Prof. Falzon says: "Investors should be positioned for such a rebound, as in the long term these short-term fluctuations do not affect one's investments." The Malta BNI Business Brief- ings (BBB) is a series of free on- line short sessions organised by Malta BNI that are held remote- ly at lunchtime via Zoom. BNI is the largest and most successful business networking organisation with Members and Chapters in over 74 countries. Visitors are welcome to join these three speakers from Medi- na Asset Management Ltd., a BNI La Valette Chapter mem- ber, to learn about investments and as to why the stock market should be viewed as a vehicle to compound one's wealth and be better off financially. This near-patient, rapid di- agnostic test – the first of its kind to provide a measure of COVID-19 antibody immuni- ty and how long it is likely to last – will help individuals un- derstand their personal COVID risk and to take more informed health decisions. The test can also establish antibody immuni- ty thresholds for different vari- ants, helping to maintain an ef- fective vaccine shield to control infection and reduce the preva- lence of the virus. For the first time, individuals can know whether they have high antibody levels and can approach a "normal" daily life. More importantly, we can iden- tify poor responders or those with a rapidly waning vaccine or booster effect, so they can protect themselves, ideally be- fore falling below the 'edge of immunity.' This could become a vital test for the elderly, more vulnerable and regular travel- lers. Attomarker's test is the only rapid, quantitative, near-patient Antibody Immunity Test in the world that can tell you the level and type of antibodies you have developed as a result of vaccina- tion and, if relevant, from natu- ral infection. It can also predict how long your personal anti- body immunity is likely to last into the future, until you reach what is termed 'the edge of im- munity.' Attomarker's Antibody Im- munity test measures IgG anti- bodies to Nucleocapsid, Spike, Spike Omicron, RBD, and pro- vides a CRP result (an impor- tant measure of inflammation). It is hoped that, by maintaining an Antibody Immunity Shield, it will be possible to stop more people from getting infected in the first place. If we can prevent more infections, less people should be at risk from the poten- tially life-altering consequences of long-Covid.This is just the first of a number of important medical products currently in development by Attomarker. The company is already using its unique technology platform to research and develop further tests: including biomarkers for liver health, food allergies and fertility. Provided trials are successful, CLEANTECH360 expects to announce the avail- ability of these tests in Malta in due course. Attomarker Antibody Immu- nity Test is exclusively available in Malta at Remedies. To book a test please call or email: Remedies Clinic Tel: 2149 8000. The newly appointed Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects, Dr. Aaron Far- rugia, has made his appointment official by visiting all Transport Malta premises and personally meeting each and every employ- ee. In his contribution to T-21, he explains how his administra- tion will continue building on the foundations that have been laid out in the past, while simultane- ously optimising other aspects of transport and infrastructure. Given that the maritime sector's importance is at an all-time high, almost every T-21 publication fo- cuses on a particular aspect of this industry. In this edition, there is a deeper dive into the vision for the Grand Harbour and how the ur- ban regeneration in this general area, which compares to similar concepts as in different coun- tries, will benefit both the func- tionality of the Harbour as well as the aesthetics. The Special Feature of this edi- tion highlights the operational aspect of the Integrated Trans- port Strategy Directorate within Transport Malta. This Directo- rate may not be as large as others in terms of manpower, however, the intricate roadworks that are necessary for our daily commutes would not be feasible without the ITSD. The Directorate plans all enhancements of our road net- works, and since transport is a constantly evolving sector, it needs regular updating of its sys- tems and safety. Mr David Sut- ton, Chief Officer of this Direc- torate, explains in detail how new concepts are being implement- ed and integrated on our roads. Since the National Household Travel Survey was concluded on- ly a few months ago, this Special Feature also gives an overview of how the information gathered through this survey is indispen- sable to transport planners of the present and the future.
