maltatoday | SUNDAY • 8 MAY 2022 3 ELDERLY CARE The Imperial awaits visitors with open weekend to celebrate anniversary in June CELEBRATING its first-year anniversa- ry, The Imperial in Sliema will be host- ing an open weekend on 4 and 5 June, between 10 am and 7 pm. Having exten- sively expanded its services over the past year to further support independent liv- ing, residents can experience exceptional care in this residential home managed by St George's Care. The Imperial opened its doors early in May 2021, following extensive renova- tions and refurbishment of the historical hotel building in the heart of Sliema. First owned by Pietru Pawlu Galea, the prop- erty, originally built for Galea's children, was turned into a hunting and shooting lodge. In 1874, the Sliema Shooting Club with its large gardens was transformed into a grand hotel: The Modern Imperial Hotel. Restoring the grandeur of the old Impe- rial Hotel building whilst preserving its magnificent architectural heritage, The Imperial now consists of single rooms, double rooms and suites with 6,000 square metres of facilities and a three-storey un- derground car park. The new residence adopted and has operated based on the more than a two-decade-long expertise of St George's Care, which also manages its sister home Casa Antonia in Balzan. Living with this ethos, residents can en- joy high standards and genuine dedica- tion from carers in the residential home that is all about empowering people to live independently. At the residential homes of St George's Care, residents are always encouraged to participate in events and activities that empower active ageing. The homes are committed to assisting residents in stay- ing in charge of their lives for the longest time possible, as they enjoy their golden age. The Casa Antonia and The Imperial residents have themselves organised fun and insightful events as well as activities for their peers to based on their own pro- fessional experience, knowledge and life- long interests. During this special open weekend in June, visitors will be able to join guided tours (and receive raffle tickets for each booked tour) in the facility, which will be followed by tea in the garden. A dedicated team will provide information about The Imperial's care options during the open weekend. Thrive physiotherapists will offer free physiotherapy assessments to visitors, while qualified nurses will provide free medical parameters checkups. Addition- ally, those visitors who decide to make bookings during the open weekend will be eligible for special rates in The Impe- rial. To make the event particularly cele- bratory, the courtyard will host live mu- sic, and on Sunday, 5 June, the traditional Malta Artisan Market will be held from 10 am onwards. The Imperial and Casa Antonia are homes that care. Based on decades-long experience of excellent care, they pay spe- cial attention to active ageing for the ben- efit of their residents.
