maltatoday | SUNDAY • 3 JULY 2022 14 EYEWITNESS 10th anniversary SOND performance ON 30th June 2022 BLITZ Val- letta joined the 10th anniversa- ry celebration of The School of Nar-rative Dance, presenting the acclaimed public perfor- mance by Marinella Senatore in Malta. The event featured over 100 participants from local groups and communities, with ages rang-ing 4 to 65, and a dance movement in memory of the murdered journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in Republic Street, Valletta. The ten-year survey exhibition of Marinella Senatore's 'Some- thing About You', curated by Sara Dolfi Agostini, is extended until 23 July 2022. The School of Narrative Dance is a large-scale participatory project experienced by over 6 mil-lion participants in 24 coun- tries to date, and centered on empowerment, inclusivity and creativ-ity as social driving forc- es. SOND features participants of every age and background, with no previous artistic experience, as well as artists from disciplines as diverse as Capoeira, Hip Hop, Breakdance, Tango, Fla-menco, Ballet, Opera, Pop music, Gym- nastics and much more. During the event on 30 June 2022, Zeb- bug B.P. Band (est. 2016) set the rhythm as passers-by were invit- ed to join the artist and the artis- tic procession to re-activate our shared public space, from the street to the build-ings, in a one- of-a-kind celebration of rebirth and community-making. A new artwork will be devel- oped from the performance and exhibited at Blitz as part of the finissage celebration of this am- bitious project on 23 July 2022. Marinella Senatore is a multi- disciplinary artist who delves in- to practices of non-hierarchical learning and participatory art. Over the years she has explored forms of resistance, vernacu- lar and popular culture, dance, music and activism, in order to rethink the political nature of com-munal action and reconcile individuals and collective bod- ies. The exhibition 'Something About You' is a ten-year sur- vey bringing together paintings, draw-ings, videos, a powerful project with Russian protest group Pussy Riot featuring a new organic site-specific sculp- ture, and a public artwork on the historical façade of Valletta's Casino Mal-tese.
