6 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 20 JULY 2022 NEWS NEWS DURING the second quarter of 2022, sea transport between Malta and Gozo registered in- creases in trips, passengers and vehicles when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2021. Between April and June 2022, a total of 10,338 trips were carried out, carrying a total of 1,478,626 passengers. June was the busiest month recording a total of 3,566 trips or 34.5 per cent of total trips for the quarter. Sea transport between Mgarr and Cirkewwa A total of 1,352,221 passengers travelled between Mġarr and Ċirkewwa during the second quarter of 2022, an increase of 49.0 per cent when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2021. The highest number of pas- sengers was recorded in June - 459,524 or 34.0 per cent of the total for the quarter. When compared to the previ- ous year, the number of vehicles increased by 21.6 per cent, to- talling 498,214. The number of trips during the second quarter amounted to 8,675, an increase of 19.6 per cent over the same period in 2021. June registered the highest number of trips - 2,964 or 34.2 per cent of total trips for the quarter . During January-June 2022, both passenger and vehicle traf- fic originating from Ċirkewwa was busiest on Fridays and Sat- urdays. On the other hand, from the Mġarr terminal, passenger traf- fic was highest on Sundays and Saturdays, while the highest number of vehicles were record- ed on Sundays and Mondays. May registered the highest number of trips - 637 or 38.3 per cent of total trips for the quarter while June recorded the highest number of passengers - 48,605 or 38.5 per cent for the quarter.
