maltatoday | SUNDAY • 7 AUGUST 2022 11 ALMANAC Nature Notebook 826. Maltese Salt-Tree IF a plant or animal carries the qualifier 'Maltese' in its name, chances are it's endemic – meaning it grows nowhere else on earth – and the Maltese salt-tree is no exception. It's a medium-size ever- green shrub with a vigorous growth of dense foliage, with small fin- ger-like succulent leaves of varying shades from bright to bluish or dusty green. It is most widespread in coastal areas, especially along south-facing cliffs - try the Xrobb l-Għaġin and Il-Munxar areas. Its flowers may be small and inconspicuous but Darniella meliten- sis remains nonetheless a botanist's delight. On this speck of land, overrun with people and heaving with building sprawl, it's a wonder we have any countryside at all, let alone species like the Maltese salt- tree (M. xebb) that are unique to our islands! In fact seventy artworks will be presented in this exhibition. A GOOD WEEK Good Week/Bad Week A BAD WEEK Big Brother, one of the original UK reality TV shows, will return to screens in 2023, years after being axed by both Channel 4 and later Channel 5. The show, which launched careers of ITV presenter Alison Hammond and Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts, will be revived by ITV2 and new streaming platform ITVX. The new Batgirl movie has been scrapped by Warner Bros Discovery months before its planned release. Reportedly budgeted at more than $70m (£58m), it was due to be shown in cinemas and on the streaming service HBO Max later this year. A promotional video aired during the Love Island series finale on Monday evening. Warner Bros said the move reflected its "leadership's strategic shift".
