maltatoday | SUNDAY • 18 SEPTEMBER 2022 14 COMMERCIAL Farsons holds annual employee awards An evening of sports and educational activities for everyone FARSONS Group's annual Cause for Applause and AIM awards for employees were held at the beginning of this month at an event organized at Kettles Café and Bistro, at The Brewhouse in Mriehel. Launched in 2015, the Cause for Applause awards reward individual employees who are seen as role models of excellence, shown through their consistency in attitude, integrity, respect, motiva- tion, and dynamism in their daily work life and beyond. The winners of this year's edition were Elena Chetcuti who was awarded the Zest Award; Ivan Lomax awarded the Wellness Award; Ajith Raveendran Pezhumchu- vattil awarded the Shine & Sparkle Award, whilst Chris- topher Micallef was award- ed the Cause for Applause Award. Special Recognition Awards were presented to the Farsonsdirect team and the HR team. The Farsons- direct team was recognized for the efforts and dedica- tion the team showed dur- ing 2021 particularly during the last quarter of the year. The HR team was awarded for the strong commitment, loyalty, and continuous ef- forts during the past year notwithstanding the various challenges encountered. The AIM (All Ideas Matter) Awards were also handed out during the night. The AIM awards recognise the top three suggestions submitted during the last financial year. This tool gives employees the opportunity to suggest how they believe their work processes can be improved, promoting a culture of con- tinuous development. The Best Suggestion Award was given to Angelo Muscat for his can-washing sugges- tion. Ms Antoinette Caruana, Group HR Manager com- mented on the occasion, "The employees recognized at these awards are excellent role models however we like to believe that the majority of our employees have also embraced the Company's sound ethical values towards fellow colleagues, clients and customers, and our stake- holders. Malta Stock Exchange to host prestigious World Federation of Exchanges General Assembly THE Malta Stock Exchange (MSE) will be hosting the pres- tigious General Assembly and Annual Meeting of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) later this month, which will bring together in Malta over 200 dele- gates from all over the globe. The WFE annual meeting, which will take place over three days starting 27 September 2022 at the Hilton Malta, will be one of the major global financial services events to take place in Malta. This will be the 61st General Assembly of the WFE. The 60th General As- sembly and Annual Meeting took place virtually last year in Shen- zhen, China. During the Annual Meeting leaders of global exchanges, reg- ulatory authorities, the buy-side, industry experts from academia and the media gather together for in-depth discussion on major issues surrounding the exchange industry. Mr Portelli will be one of many speakers who will be addressing the WFE Annual Meeting. In fact, following the General Assembly which will be held in the morn- ing of 28 September, Portelli will be joined by the CEO of the WFE Nandini Sukumar in the opening ceremony of the event. The An- nual Meeting will feature various keynote speeches, plenary panel session as well as fireside chats. The speakers include foreign delegates and CEOs of various ex- changes from around the world, as well as local delegates and ex- perts in the field from entities like Bloomberg, Nasdaq, Standard and Poor, BlackRock, JP Morgan, Saxo Capital Markets UK, Unit- ed Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA), the Central Bank of Malta and the Malta Financial Services Authori- ty and the Malta Stock Exchange. The meeting will cover a num- ber of topics such as the role of market infrastructure through the pandemic and beyond, liquidity as the fundamental building block for healthy and thriving markets, global markets and fragmenting regulation, innovation in technol- ogy, the crypto market, ESG and others. Since its foundation in 1961, the WFE has organised committees, meetings, general assemblies, conferences, and workshops for its members to transfer knowl- edge and share expertise. As an industry trade organisation, the WFE has discussed virtually every aspect of the capital market: the technical, the commercial, the legal and the economic. In the past four decades the WFE has published studies and reports on issues such as CCP recovery & resolution, business continuity, self-regulation, cross border trad- ing, HFT, sustainability, SMEs and cyber security. THIS Wednesday 21 September, San Klement Park in Żabbar will be trans- formed into a space for the promotion of food, health and sports aimed at encour- aging the public to live a healthier and more sustainable life. With activities starting at 5pm, in col- laboration with Danusan, the Sustainable Development Directorate is inviting you and your family for an evening of sports and educational activities for everyone. This activity is free of charge and is open to everyone. The programme is varied and those present will have the opportunity to meet Maltese Olympic athletes, includ- ing Matthew Abela (badminton), Carla Scicluna and Janet Richard (athletics), and Lacey Aquilina (sailing). The Malta Skateboard Association will be holding a talent show. More sports organisations include: the Malta Football Association, Malta Cricket, Badminton Malta, Special Olympics Malta, the Malta Wheelchair Basketball Association, and the Boċċi Clubs Federation. Representatives from the Health Pro- motion and Disease Prevention Direc- torate will provide information on how to live a healthy life and the type of bal- anced diet one can eat. Through the promotion of local and nutritious products, information on sustainable agricultural practices will be given. Apart from exhibitions of sports talent, there will also be Zumba, games for chil- dren, crafts and sports activities as well as a band performance from the Żabbar Scout Group. This activity is being organised by the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise as part of the European Sustainable Development Week. This year's theme is Shaping our Sustainable Future.
