maltatoday | SUNDAY • 25 SEPTEMBER 2022 14 COMMERCIAL Nominations open for EY's Malta Entrepreneur of the Year THE nominations for EY's Malta Entrepreneur of the Year 2023 award are open. In its sixth year, the award promotes entrepreneur- ship across the Maltese Islands and empowers en- trepreneurs to grow and showcase their businesses both locally and globally. The winner of this pres- tigious award will travel to Monaco in June 2023 to compete for the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year award in an event that brings together national winners from 50 coun- tries. Previous Maltese partici- pants have been a mixture of staple institutions that have grown the country's business landscape and in- novative newcomers that have reshaped it. These include Alfred Pisani of Corinthia Group, Angelo Xuereb of AX Holdings Ltd, David Dar- manin of Hotjar Ltd, Naz- zareno Vassallo of Vassal- lo Group, and last year's winner, Mark Bajada from Bajada New Energy. The EY Rising Star is also presented for those nomi- nations that are providing something new and ex- citing in the market while showing strong growth trends. Past winners include David Vella of Altaro Software, Shane Hunter of AquaBioTech Group, Ben Remfrey of Praedium Consulting Malta Ltd and John Winfield of Dr. Juice. The 2021 Rising Star was awarded to Krystle Pen- za, Managing Director of Mvintage. Ronald Attard, EY Mal- ta's Country Managing Partner, said: 'Each edition of the award has showed us time and time again that Malta is full of excep- tional leaders who can not only excel in their field but have the ability to inspire other budding entrepre- neurs. Through this com- petition we want to excite ambitious business own- ers while showcasing their accomplishments not only to the island but all over the world, as they go head- to-head against some of the biggest and brightest minds found from all cor- ners of the globe." The award is judged by an independent panel made up of key players in the business community. To be eligible, nominees must be Maltese or have been operating a company based in Malta for at least two years. Anyone, includ- ing employees, company advisers and financiers, can nominate an entrepre- neur, with the latter's con- sent. Entrepreneurs may also directly nominate themselves. The winners will be sent to the annual gala in Monaco where they will compete for World Entrepreneur of the Year. The awards are held in conjunction with the Mal- ta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, and the Malta Chamber of SME's. Kayaking event crowdfunds for CLAWS to support cats and kittens A new crowdfunding campaign on local platform Zaar looks to raise funds for CLAWS with an exciting community charity event. The event will welcome partic- ipants throughout a three-day kayaking journey around Mal- ta and Gozo, raising money to support cats and kittens on the islands. The recently launched Zaar campaign hopes to crowdfund to cover the costs of the kayak- ing event, including materials, supplies, campaigns and support boats. Meanwhile, it boosts both awareness and funds for CLAWS (Cat Lovers Adoptions, Welfare and Support), a voluntary organ- isation that aims to reduce the number of stray and homeless cats and kittens in Malta. The journey will cover over 100km around the Maltese Is- lands, with kayakers able to join at various stages throughout the weekend to take on smaller and more manageable distances, with camping stops in between. Starting from Marsaxlokk, the kayakers will paddle to Dwejra in Gozo before camping for the night. The following morning sees the route continue around Gozo and back to Malta, camp- ing overnight again in Mellieħa. The kayaking adventure will end with a paddle back to Marsax- lokk. With a €5,000 goal, funds raised through donations to the Zaar campaign will ensure that participants stay safe, with med- ical care provided via a support boat; water and snacks provided as well as an evening meal and breakfast; access to spare pad- dles in case of breakages; and a security officer to guard the kay- aks and campsites at night. While raising funds for such a worthy cause, contributors who donate €100 or more to the crowdfunding campaign on Zaar can also expect a mention in the event's online content and on social media platforms. Cor- porate sponsorship options are available. Donate to the 'Kayaking Around Malta for Charity' cam- paign today at zaar.com.mt. Dates for the kayaking commu- nity event for CLAWS will be announced soon.
