PATERNITY LEAVE
Fathers or equivalent second parents are now entitled to ten
days fully paid, without any loss of pay.
This right also applies in the case of adoption of a child, and
applies irrespective of the couple's marital status or the
worker's family status.
In the case of LGBTIQ couples, this right is merged with
maternity leave, where maternity and paternity leave are added
together, and the leave is then shared between the two parents.
RIGHT TO A FLEXIBLE WORKING
ARRANGEMENT
Now working parents have the right to request flexible working
arrangements for caring purposes until their child reaches the age of eight.
This means that the Government will continue to encourage flexibility for
workers so that they can balance work and personal life

PARENTAL LEAVE
Each parent is now entitled to four months leave, two
months of which will be paid. Meanwhile, the remaining
two months of unpaid leave can also be transferred
between parents.
The two months worth of paid parental leave can be taken
gradually during the first eight years of the child so that at
the most necessary moments in the child's upbringing,
parents will be able to share this burden together.
The Maltese Government is extending this right to also
apply to foster carers.
CARERS' LEAVE
All workers are now entitled to five days of unpaid annual leave to provide
personal care or support to a relative or person living in the same
household with themselves, for health related reasons.
According to the legal notice, there is an obligation to present a
certificate to prove that these days have been taken for a valid reason.
