maltatoday | SUNDAY • 16 OCTOBER 2022 16 COMMERCIAL Fourth annual Cyber ROOT National Cybersecurity Coordination ON the 26th of October, MITA will be organising the fourth annual Cyber ROOT confer- ence, bringing together experts and players in digital security to discuss the latest developments in the field. PAUL COCKS spoke to Deborah Schiavone, from MITA's Information Se- curity and Governance Depart- ment. What is Cyber ROOT? Cyber ROOT is an annual conference organised by MITA and this is the fourth year it is being organised. In 2019 it was held in person, but in 2020 and 2021 it was organised online due to the pandemic. This year the conference will again be a physical one, with all the advan- tages that a physical event has over a virtual one. Each year, the conference fo- cuses on one particular aspect of digital security, aiming to deliver the latest current news relevant to the industry. When will the conference be held? This year the conference will be held on the 26th of October at the Mediterranean Confer- ence Centre in Valletta. Regis- trations will open at 8am with the conference starting at 9am. Registration is free and anyone who wishes to attend can quick- ly register by clicking the regis- tration button on the website www.mita.gov.mt/cyberroot. The website also showcases relevant information about the guest speakers and the agenda for the day. Who should attend the confer- ence? The conference targets all lo- cal organisations and profes- sionals who operate in a digital landscape or who have an in- terest in digital security. Gov- ernment entities, companies, SMEs, startups, academics, re- searchers and professionals can all benefit from the opportuni- ties that lie ahead through the NCC and therefore attending the conference should be a pri- ority. What's this year's focus sub- ject? This year, the focus will be on the launch of Malta's Nation- al Cybersecurity Coordination Centre(NCC). The centre's role, its importance, as well as the op- portunities that will be available for the Maltese community, will be highlighted throughout the event. At the conference, the guests will also have the chance to reach out directly to the NCC team by visiting the NCC infor- mation booth. Will there be any special guest speakers? The conference will kick-start with three keynote speeches. The Maltese Principal Perma- nent Secretary, Tony Sultana will open the event followed by the Chair of the Europe- an Cybersecurity Competence Centre, which is the entity that regulates all the National Coor- dination Centres that are being set up in Europe. The third key- note speaker will be the CEO of MITA, Emanuel Darmanin, who will explain the purpose and vision of the NCC. MITA's CTO and Head of the Information Security and Gov- ernance Department, Jonathan Cassar, and other core mem- bers of the NCC team, will de- liver specific information on the roles and responsibilities of the Coordination Centre.
