Celebrating the 25th an- niversary as a leading company in the local maritime industry, the company has identified its growth potential in new ser- vices including air and road transport, warehousing and just-in time delivery. ADDRESSING a number of clients gathered at the Mal- ta Maritime Museum in Bir- gu to celebrate the company's silver anniversary, Managing Director Mr Godwin Xerri explained that although Focal Maritime is a family-owned enterprise deeply rooted in history, it is adopting a for- ward-looking approach, and in front of the challenges present- ed by the current international economic climate, it is aiming to expand, and grow into a group of companies providing a wide-range of services within the logistics industry. Taking a leaf out of the theme chosen for the company's 25th anniversary – a history built on trust – Mr Xerri highlighted how indeed trust has been the epitome of the organisation's offering throughout the years. He explained that despite the family's management involve- ment, it is proactively adopt- ing modern governance prac- tices, including the creation of a holding company with a board of directors supported by external consultants and the creation of two new gen- eral manager posts which en- sure more focus on the clients' requirements. The company is also investing heavily in the provision of training for both management and staff to meet the demands of an ever-chang- ing business and commercial landscape. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary since its establish- ment, the company has also launched a new corporate web- site, available on www.focal- maritime.com. ON Friday, all Maltese and Gozitan schools celebrated the day dedicated to sport, an initia- tive of SportMalta together with the European Commission as part of the activities of the Euro- pean Week of sport. Apart from the many primary, middle and secondary schools that organised the activities in their schools, SportMalta held its main activity at the Tal-Qroqq Complex. More than 500 chil- dren of second and third prima- ry class attended 75 minutes of physical activity presented by the popular actors DanuSan. The schools of Sliema, San Gil- jan, San Gwann, Pembroke and Gzira did a number of physical activities and dances and received a message that sport, and phys- ical activity are important for a healthy life physically and men- tally. This event is also a prelude to another schedule of the ON the Move program that will start next week in schools and various SportMalta complexes. The European Day of Sport in Schools, which is part of the Eu- ropean Week of Sport initiative, involves physical activity that en- courages children to #BeActive for at least 120 minutes a day or to run or walk a certain amount of distance. It is a festival that gives schools the chance to support social in- clusion, help students develop social skills, engage young people in physical activity, and promote health and wellbeing to support learning throughout the life. Participating in sports outside of school also helps to learn new skills both for physical activity and for daily life that are bene- ficial for every individual, both children and adults. This year's theme, GO GREEN, is to use the power of sport to help the environment and sus- tainability. Environmental and educational initiatives have been integrated to improve physical activity by encouraging the use of public transport, walking, and cycling and by building ecolog- ical infrastructure, encouraging physical exercise, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
