maltatoday | SUNDAY • 23 OCTOBER 2022 6 MUSIC Disney's live to film return with the MPO FOLLOWING the success of Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King live to film, the Malta Philarmonic Orchestra (MPO) is presenting Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in concert, live to film. Starting off back in 2003, Dis- ney's Pirates of the Caribbean film series is a favourite among children and adults alike. The franchise originated with a theme park ride inspired by pirate legends, novels and folk- lore which then led to the crea- tion of the films. The MPO will be performing live to the first movie from the adventures of legendary pirate Captain Jack Sparrow on 3 De- cember at the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre in Ta' Qali. The family-friendly symphon- ic cinema event offers audienc- es the opportunity to enjoy the captivating soundtrack, a creative collaboration between Badelt and Zimmer. Acade- my-Award winning composer Zimmer is a leading figure in the movie industry, working on some of the most memorable blockbuster soundtracks, in- cluding this collaboration with Badelt. Building on the MPO's goal to tap the film industry, the pro- duction follows on the popular live to film shows presented in 2019. In recent years, the orchestra bolstered further this momen- tum, working on a number of soundtracks and recently per- forming under the baton of award-winning composer John Powell. An early-bird offer of 10% on Platinum & Gold tickets is available until the 31st Octo- ber, 2022. This presentation is licensed by Disney Concerts with the support of the Malta Film Commission For more on the MPO and upcoming performances visit: https://maltaorchestra.com/ Musical concert for Fgura Day FOR the occasion of Fgura Day on Fri- day, October 28, a musical concert will be held with soloists Aldo Busuttil, Darrell Pace, Lara Azzopardi and Ma- ria Ellul. The Music of the Night concert starts at 7.30pm at the Parish Church of the locality. The Fgura Local Council ex- pressed the wish that the singers and choir were all to hail from Fgura, thus promoting the local talent that embrac- es this locality. Some of the music to be played at the concert include Think of Me from the musical Phantom of the Opera, Va Pensiero from Giuseppe Verdi's Nabuc- co, Fall on Me as sung by Andrea and Matteo Bocelli and the Canon in D of Johann Pachebel. The orchestra will be composed of about 48 musicians with the parish choir under the baton of Mro Simon Ellul. Mro Ellul composed an original music piece which recalls the Pedestal's convoy, better known as of St. Maria, which this year marked the 80th anni- versary of its arrival on the Island dur- ing the Second War. Another original passage was written to the memory of Nazarene (Zaren) Farrugia, who made a great contribu- tion, not only in Fgura, but in the ed- ucational field, as he was a teacher at the Raħal Ġdid Technical Institute and was also an active member of the MU- SEUM.
