Auditions open for Masquerade's next musical Masquerade is holding auditions in March for its production of Grease, which will be hand- jiving to Teatru Manoel this October MASQUERADE Malta is get- ting set to say 'You're the one that we want!' to the cast of its next major musical: Grease. The leading theatre produc- tion company has announced it will host auditions between 6-9 March, with all parts in the famous musical up for grabs, including Danny, Sandy, Rizzo, Kenickie and all the T-Birds and Pink Ladies! Based on the 1970s musical production featuring book, music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, Grease tells the story of two Rydell High senior students, Danny and Sandy, who meet on holiday and fall in love. Sandy is a quin- tessential goody-two-shoes, while Danny is a bad boy with a soft heart, and their summer romance ends with the holiday – until Sandy turns up at Dan- ny's high school. With such op- posite personalities and school reputations to worry about, Danny and Sandy must find a way to overcome their differ- ences and revive the love they found on those summer nights. Apart from several stage re- vivals, Grease also hit the big screen in 1978 starring John Travolta and Olivia New- ton-John, becoming at the time the highest-grossing musical film ever. Some changes and modifications have since en- sured that this classic contin- ues its timeless appeal for to- day's audiences. "Grease is one of the most popular musicals of all time, and we are thrilled to be 'Hand Jiving' into Teatru Manoel with it in October, as part of Masquerade Malta's 25th an- niversary year," says Masquer- ade artistic director Anthony Bezzina. "The show features a phenomenal score, burst- ing with everyone's favourite songs such as Summer Nights, Greased Lightnin', Hopelessly Devoted to You and You're the One That I Want. We're real- ly looking forward to receiving applications – and are inviting potential T-Birds and Pink La- dies to sign up for an audition pack." Grease is the latest produc- tion in a packed programme of events to celebrate Masquer- ade's 25th anniversary theatre season. Following on from the extremely popular Matilda and Ċikku and the Chocolate Pan- to, most recently, the company has produced the highly ac- claimed Betrayal, while Misery, a new stage adaptation of Ste- phen King's bestselling psycho- logical thriller, is set to open later this month. Led by Bezzina as director, Masquerade's creative team behind Grease includes mu- sic director Kris Spiteri, cho- reographer Valerie Burke, set designer Romualdo Moretti, costume designer Simona Ma- mo and vocal coach Analise Cassar.
