FAA to organise Zejtun Heritage Trail in March THE latest publication of Do- minican Publications, entitled San Tumas t'Akwinu: Ħajtu u Ħsibijietu, was launched on Tuesday 7th February 2023, during a book launch at the Dominican Priory of Vittorio- sa. The publication, authored by Fr. Joseph Ellul OP, marks the 700th anniversary since the canonisation of St. Thomas Aquinas, exploring the life and works of the Angelic Doctor. Along with a detailed and criti- cal analysis of the life and times of St. Thomas, the book also deals with various themes such as St. Thomas' interreligious dialogue with Islamic Culture, St. Thomas' mysticism, and the saint's poetry on the Eucharist amongst others. St. Thomas Aquinas (1225- 1274) was a Dominican theo- logian, mystic, and poet. His theological treatises have left a profound and indelible in- fluence on all fields of Catho- lic theology and philosophy. Through encounters with Is- lamic authors, Aquinas was among the first to reintroduce in Medieval Western thought the works and methods of Aristotle. His efforts to inte- grate them with the tradition- al Neo-Platonic methods and the works of the Fathers of the Church met up with his forceful logic in favour of defending the faith. It is for this reason that St. Thomas is held as the pro- totypical example of the faith and reason dialectic. To this day Aquinas is still widely taught at all major seminaries and theo- logical faculties throughout the world and still engages in dia- logue with various fields and ac- ademic disciplines. The Church considers St. Thomas as one of its foremost theologians and for many years it has granted unri- valled prestige to his systematic methods. St. Thomas' academic brilliance and theological ge- nius was complemented by his life of mysticism and union with God which makes his theologi- cal ventures a truly Christian project. Copies of this first publica- tion of the life and works of St. Thomas in the Maltese lan- guage are sold at €10 and may be acquired from all Dominican Priories around Malta and all major religious bookshops.
