maltatoday | SUNDAY • 26 FEBRUARY 2023 8 ALMANAC My essentials MILICA LAWRENCE 40, educator, writer, researcher I moved to beautiful Malta in 2019 with my husband. Initially, I started working at MAVC as piano teacher and accompanist. A year later I opened Malta Piano Academy. Today we have many talented students, with international awards, excellent exam results and several successful concerts under our belt. Last year, MPA organised the first Malta International Piano Festival. 1 4 5 1. Book 2. Film 3. Internet/TV 4. Music 5. Place IN my spare time I enjoy watching National Geo- graphic. Also, I follow Lea Hogg's YouTube channel. Apart from that, I listen to good quality music of all genres. Lately, I'm interest- ed in Maltese music and music spots as some of MPA students are also singers so I follow their activities in local singing contests and festivals. AS professional pianist and harpsichordist my focus is on classical music, but I love oth- er genres as well, especially jazz. However, sacred music is closest to my heart. DEFINITELY Valletta! Real jewel of Europe and architec- tural marvel. Valletta is full of positive energy and good vibe. Just walking the streets of Valletta is a pure joy and privilege. I love so much The Lit- tle Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It is a mag- ical blend of simplicity and complexity, innocence and philosophical thoughts. It is a book for every reader re- gardless of age. It is a book to warm your heart and ex- pand your mind. "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly: what is essential is invisible to the eye." MIRACLE in Milan, from film director Vittorio De Si- ca. This extraordinary film is very complex with many layers. It teaches us the im- portance of kindness and hu- mility. Relevance of this film is especially important in to- day's world. More than ever, we need to love and under- stand each other. 3 2
