maltatoday | SUNDAY • 27 MARCH 2022 OPINION 3 LETTERS & EDITORIAL maltatoday | SUNDAY • 26 MARCH 2023 Mikiel Galea Letters & Clarifications Who was the mastermind behind Karin's murder? WHEN I heard the news of the death of Prof. Edwin Grech, father of murdered Karin Grech, my mind raced back to that late afternoon when he called me a few months after Karin's brutal murder by a letter-bomb. He asked me if I could go to their home at Monte Rosa Gar- dens, St Julian's as he and his dear wife Pearl wished to talk to me. I immediately left. When I arrived Prof. Grech introduced me to his wife and led me to the sitting room. His first words were that because I was the only one from the Labour side who used to write frequently in the Times of Malta at the time, they wished me to write a letter on what he was about to tell me. After mentioning the various veiled threats they had received, especially the one when he was told 'Remember you have children', Prof. Grech told me that he was convinced the master-mind be- hind that letter-bomb was a person with very close connections to the Nationalist Party. He even mentioned his name. That person is still alive and, I believe, still politically involved behind the scenes. I promised Prof. Grech that I would be sending a letter the very next day. In my letter I referred to what Prof. Edwin Grech's family had been going through, then added the following words: 'The accusing finger can only point in one direction - the Nation- alists!'. As a result of that letter, and particularly the words I have quoted, I was sued for libel by Louis Galea who at that time was the general secretary of the PN. To cut a long story short about that libel case, Galea lost the libel case with costs. He appealed, and again lost his appeal with costs. I have no idea whether Prof. Grech had ever changed his mind on who was, in his opinion, the mastermind, as I have never had an occasion to speak to him since then. I take this occasion to offer my most heartfelt condolences to his dear wife Pearl and Kevin, as well as all the family. Eddy Privitera Via email Bolt food couriers' rights I am writing to express my concern about the continuous violations of Bolt food couriers' rights, particularly the use of mock locations in the Bolt Food courier application. This illegal practice violates the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and it puts us, Bolt couriers, at risk. Many of us have been dealing with this problem for far too long, and it has a significant impact on our earning potential. Although Bolt Food manage- ment is aware of the problem, they have yet to take appropriate action. On the other hand, Wolt has already modified their software to prevent the use of mock locations. As a Bolt food courier, I call upon the press to help us bring this serious problem to light. We demand that Bolt Food immediately modify their soft- ware to prevent the use of mock loca- tions, just like Wolt does. This would ensure fairness and transparency from our employer and enable us to provide high-quality service to our customers. We urge Bolt Food management to take prompt action to address this issue and do better for their customers and workers. This way, Bolt Food can turn into a responsible employer, respecting the law and couriers' rights. Mohammed Kashif Via email
