maltatoday | SUNDAY • 27 MARCH 2022 OPINION 3 LETTERS & EDITORIAL maltatoday | SUNDAY • 9 APRIL 2023 Mikiel Galea Letters & Clarifications Atheism and belief I know that it is easier to moor a ship with a spider's web thread or cut the base of a mountain with a razor than melting J. Guillaumier's bulldog-like tenacity in negating the startling find- ings that Christ's lifespan on earth and His resurrection were historical events. J.G. certainly lost his way in quoting Reimarus and Schweitzer and waging a vociferous un-holy campaign in the printed media. He should have taken the road paved with the blood of the crucified Jesus, because those who follow that road will find themselves there-at the Cross where all sins are washed away. He should have resorted to the excellent compelling thesis of Lee Strobel, who as a tena-cious investi- gative journalist managed to reveal convincing historical and scientific evi-dence that Christ really once lived, died and eventually resurrected. His extensive convic-tions about the- ism take us back even to the creation of the world. Some of his books are: 'The case for a creator, for faith, for Christ, for Christmas and for Easter.' "I have given thee to be the light of the gentiles, that thou mayst be my salvation even in the farthest part of the earth." (Is.49:6) His meticulous scientific probity of the core issue of the resurrection was a life-changing reality for him, first and foremost, because from an atheist he turned Christian and maybe many others who read his books. What a relief! What a Saviour! John Azzopardi Zabbar Mediterraneo Marine Park is a licensed zoo A recent opinion piece by Raphael Vas- sallo accused Mediterraneo Marine Park of being an animal circus. In reality, Med- iterraneo Marine Park is a licensed zoo and operates under strict regulations that are in line with European Union stand- ards for animal welfare. The park is dedicated to conservation efforts and educational programmes that seek to raise public awareness on the im- portance of conservation. We also have breeding pro-grammes for endangered species such as the Testudo kleinmanni, a tortoise that used to be common in Egypt but is nearing extinction in the wild. The animals at Mediterraneo Marine Park are not trained to perform tricks for entertain-ment. Our only aim with train- ing is to guarantee animal welfare. In fact, our animals are encouraged to display their natural behaviours and engage in activities that are enriching and stimu- lating for them. Some of the behaviours they are taught are also crucial for their veterinary care. The park's staff are highly trained pro- fessionals who provide expert care for the animals and strive to ensure their physi- cal and emotional well-being. We understand that there may be con- cerns about the role of zoos and animal parks in soci-ety. However, it is impor- tant to note that regulated zoos and parks play a critical role in the conservation of endangered species and the protection of animal welfare. Mediterraneo Marine Park is proud to be a part of this effort and will continue to work to-wards its mission of educa- tion, conservation, and animal welfare. The Management Mediterraneo Marine Park
