3 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 19 APRIL 2023 NEWS NICOLE MEILAK BOLT has partnered with Ga- sanZammit Motors and Ferrug- gia Fleet to launch a new cate- gory of service exclusively for people with reduced mobility needs in Malta. The new service will be pro- vided using LEVC TX, a fully electric taxicab that is pur- pose-built for accessibility. The new category, called "as- sist," is dedicated to providing transportation for anyone who requires additional assistance. All vehicles in the assist cate- gory are licensed as wheelchair accessible, and drivers have completed relevant training, including health and safety training provided by the Oc- cupational Health and Safety Authority. When booking a ride, cus- tomers are encouraged to send an in-app message or give the driver a call to specify what kind of assistance is needed. "With this new category, we aim to make transportation ac- cessible to everyone, regardless of their mobility limitations," Bolt's Ridehailing Country Manager Ryan Mahoney said. "We recognize that getting around Malta can be chal- lenging for those who require additional assistance, and we are committed to providing a solution that makes transpor- tation safe, comfortable, and reliable." Carolyn Zammit, Director of Marketing at GasanZammit, and Fabrizio Ferruggia, Man- aging Director at Ferruggia Fleet, said they were excited to collaborate with Bolt on this initiative. "We are enthusiastic about transforming the transport sector together. Safety and af- fordability are at the core of our operations, and with this partnership, we are taking the well-being and protection of our drivers and passengers to a higher level. We are proud to offer fleet vehicles with the lat- est in safety technology," they said. Sources say one of the dogs was stabbed and killed by Galea, and the oth- er has been put back inside his Msida house. Sources told MaltaToday on Tuesday that more than 24 hours after the attack, other dogs owned by Galea were yet to be fed. Animal activists who spoke to this newspaper said the dogs could be heard whining by neighbours. According to sources, Galea currently has eight to ten pit bulls. Residents in the area said he is known of housing ag- gressive dogs, and constant barking by the dogs had be- come a regular occurrence. "One neighbour told me he had to close his son's bed- room window, because the constant whining and bark- ing coming from Galea's residence was not letting him sleep last night," an ac- tivist said. They said that Galea's fam- ily members are scared of entering the residence, fear- ing the aggressive dogs. Neighbours are also scared of getting out of their homes, out of fear that another dog might escape and attack their own pets or children. "They are afraid, especial- ly after what happened yes- terday. You could see their bloodied face and aggressive stare; how can you feel safe walking the streets there?" the activist said. Questions sent to the An- imal Welfare Department remained unanswered.
