maltatoday | SUNDAY • 30 APRIL 2023 9 ALMANAC Nature Notebook 864. Crown Daisy IT'S one of our best known flowers, and certainly one of the most common at this time of year. The crown daisy adds colour to our country roads with its barrage of intense chrome yellow flowers – no wonder we say "isfar lellux" as the essence of yellowness; its frilly, rich green foliage completes the picture of vigorous growth and beauty. Seemingly appearing out of nowhere, these seasonal hedges grow extensively on mounds of rubble, road verges, gashes in tar- mac, broken pavements and other areas that people try their hardest to uglify with refuse and neglect. No matter! Insects home in on the myriad miniature suns to gorge on pollen and nectar. And then, within a few weeks, the feast of colour and acivity is all over, as the crown daisy seeds and disappears. Comino Bakery: we have collected over 16,000 euros! In April, we hit another milestone and collected over 16,000 euros which is 54% of the funding required for the first phase. Big thank you to every- one who helped us with it! However, there is still work to be done. We need to collect a further 14,000 euros to start working on our three main goals. Here they are: • Gaining Security • Installing Essential facilities including plumbing & electricity • Responsibly clearing the site Our fundraising goal is €30,000, which may sound like a considerable sum of money. However, it's important to note that Comino lacks fun- damental infrastructure, so bringing the necessary resources to the is- land comes at a steep cost. The songs will be performed by renowned soprano Andriana Yordanova with the international pianist Julia Miller on the piano. Together with flutist Clara Galea, Julia Miller will also perform the exquisite 'Undine' sonata for Piano and Flute (op. 167) of Carl Reinecke. This sonata is considered one of the major works that exposes the versatility of flute written in the nineteenth century. Give nature a voice. The Jerry Springer Show, which ran for nearly three decades from 1991, brought fights, flying chairs, and the fringes of US society to a global audience. In March it was reported that the couple were expecting a baby. Springer died peacefully on Thursday at his home in Chicago, his publicists confirmed to BBC News.
