maltatoday | SUNDAY • 27 MARCH 2022 OPINION 3 LETTERS & EDITORIAL maltatoday | SUNDAY • 28 MAY 2023 Mikiel Galea Letters & Clarifications Dar Arka respite centre abuse THE National Parents' Society for Per- sons with Disability is deeply disturbed by the recent allegations of physical abuse at the Dar Arka Respite Centre in Għajnsielem. We strongly condemn any form of mistreatment or abuse against individuals with disabilities and emphasize the need for swift action and justice. According to reports, the two car- ers involved in the alleged abuse have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. We commend the Ministry for Inclusion, Aġenzija Sapport, the Social Welfare Standards Authority, and the police for their prompt response and commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents. As an organization dedicated to advocating for the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities, and their families, we believe appropriate meas- ures must be taken to prevent such incidents. We call upon all relevant au- thorities and stakeholders to conduct thorough investigations, support the victims, and implement comprehensive safeguards to protect the vulnerable population. Dar Arka plays a vital role in pro- viding essential services and support to individuals with disability and their families. It is distressing to learn that a place meant to offer care and as- sistance has become the setting for alleged abuse. We encourage the Arka Foundation and the Gozo Diocese to take immediate and decisive action to address the issue, including a transpar- ent investigation and implementation of robust safeguarding measures. Additionally, we urge the govern- ment to ensure that the ongoing in- vestigations are conducted diligently and with utmost priority to hold those responsible accountable for their ac- tions. It is vital to restore trust in the system and reaffirm the commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-be- ing of individuals with disabilities. The National Parents' Society for Persons with Disability remains com- mitted to advocating for the rights, dignity, and inclusion of persons with disabilities in society. We stand in solidarity with the victims and their families during this challenging time and will closely monitor the progress of the investigation. Marchita Mangiafico, President NPSPD PG donations to parties THE PG Group said that "business organisations of its size should support the country's democratic process, and that this includes ensuring the proper funding of the main political parties which enjoy the overwhelming support of the Maltese electorate" – and donat- ed €10,000 to both the PL and PN prior to the 2022 election. What an idiotic statement. PG have just declared that they are the typical amoral business people, who invest in both PN and PL to ensure that they can make hay while the sun shines, which- ever of the two parties is in power. Be- ing myself a PG shareholder, the com- pany is basically using my own money to finance my political adversaries. As if it were not enough to have the Maltese state using my and other taxpayers' money to finance political crooks like Joseph Muscat and political bazuzli like Kurt Farrugia. Since they are so keen on "enhancing" the dem- ocratic process in Malta, can the PG group let us know if by any chance they are offering privileged or discounted berthing rates at the Ragusa Yacht Ma- rina to Maltese PL and PN politicians, including Prime Minister Robert Abela? Arnold Cassola Swieqi Fixed speed cameras don't work THE police and other entities enforcing road safety rules should be equipped with mobile speed recorders to capture speedsters wherever they are. Motorists will have to be more careful in this way because they wouldn't know where the speed cameras are, unlike the existing situation. Emma Spiteri, Tarxien
