maltatoday | SUNDAY • 25 JUNE 2023 9 COMMERCIAL Inspire Foundation celebrates 10 years of the STAR Programme, transforming lives of adults with disabilities INSPIRE Foundation, Malta's leading NGO dedicated to sup- porting individuals with dis- abilities, is commemorating a significant milestone: the 10th anniversary of its acclaimed STAR Programme. Over the past decade, Inspire's STAR Programme has played a pivotal role in empowering and improv- ing the lives of adults with dis- abilities through its comprehen- sive range of interventions and personalized support. The STAR, which stands for Specialized Therapy and Re/ha- bilitation Programme at Inspire is designed to cater specifically to a group of young men and women with profound multi- ple learning disabilities. These individuals require tailored in- terventions that address their unique needs, and Inspire's pro- fessional multi-disciplinary team works diligently to establish and pursue objectives that foster growth, independence, and ful- filment.Delivering exceptional service is at the core of the STAR Programme's success. The pro- gramme operates for 30 hours per week, delivered by dedicated Care workers across 45 weeks in a year. To ensure comprehensive support, traditional and com- plementary therapeutic inter- ventions are conducted jointly with tutors, including the use of specialised areas such as Mul- tisensory rooms, hippotherapy involving horses instructors, and hydrotherapy with the latest ad- dition of a hydrobath. Participants of the STAR Pro- gramme experience a multitude of benefits that positively impact their lives. Through this trans- formative initiative, clients gain enhanced self-awareness and self-esteem, enabling them to build more meaningful relation- ships and better interact with others. The programme empha- sizes the importance of healthy living, and participants undergo comprehensive mobility training to promote independence and physical well-being. Addition- ally, improved motor skills and orientation, along with height- ened sensory skills and levels of arousal, further enhance their quality of life. The STAR Pro- gramme also provides ample opportunities for enjoyment, relaxation, and self-expression, fostering a sense of joy and fulfil- ment in their daily lives. The STAR Programme is spe- cifically tailored for individuals aged 22 years and older, who face profound and complex neu- rological, motor, and sensory difficulties. As part of its drive to foster the company value of 'Together', Mel- ita has set up a specific fund to encourage employees to come together outside the work environment and sign up for a team sport or cultural activity. Apart from supporting employees to be fit and healthy, the idea behind this fund is to foster a team spirit of good communication, decision-making, and accountability in every sphere of life. Team BOOM declared BOV Bowling Premier League champions TEAM Boom are the new BOV Bowling Premier League Champions dethroning Team OKMalta.com who had won the league in the previous sev- en consecutive seasons. Team BOOM is led by elite senior player Mark Spiteri with the team made up of the youths under his coaching Miguel Xuereb, Julian Bal- dacchino, Shaun Montanaro, Ruslana Grima, and Damian Pisani. Their matches feature 4-person rotations from these five mentioned players. Mark Spiteri and two-handed youth bowler Miguel Xuereb have a league average score of 200 while their youth bowler Julian Baldacchino currently holds the season-high game scored this season with a 279 score. Team BOOM secured the ti- tle with two weeks to spare in the league schedule and were unbeaten in the first 14 match- es of the season where they racked up 13 wins and 1 draw, beating the reigning champi- ons OKMALTA.com twice. Ernest Agius, Chief Opera- tions Officer at Bank of Val- letta and Edward Mifsud, President of the Malta Bowl- ing Association presented the BOV Bowling Premier League Trophy to the newly crowned champions. Bank of Valletta is a major supporter of sporting initia- tives in Malta as part of the Bank's aim of strengthen- ing the connection between sports, physical activity, and health and wellbeing so more people can enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle.
