Having returned to Malta in 2011 after a period
of study abroad in Scotland and having purchased
the first camera in my life aged 30 to document
the colourful beauty of the landscapes of the
Scottish Highlands, I became attracted to black
and white photography specifically. Noticing the
fast-changing landscape of Maltese architecture
in stark contrast to my childhood in the eighties
and nineties being born in Gozo, and the strong
contrasty light and lines of Maltese architecture
proved an irresistible allure for my black andw
white vision. I thus commenced a project of
photographing Maltese village cores, doorways,
staircases and vernacular farmhouses. Little did
I know how this project would evolve, into a
mission spanning over a decade, culminating in
books and exhibits about Maltese architecture, in
collaboration with stalwarts of the sector such as
