maltatoday | SUNDAY • 9 JULY 2023 8 COMMERCIAL GreenPak successfully concludes the 'Batteries for Hospice' school challenge GREENPAK, a leading envi- ronmental organization, is an- nouncing the successful cul- mination of its 'Batteries for Hospice' Schools competition. The challenge, which ran from 21st March to 15th June 2023, witnessed an overwhelming re- sponse from 100 primary and secondary state, private, and church schools across Malta. This initiative aimed to promote responsible battery recycling while raising funds for Hospice Malta. Under the competition's cri- teria, schools were evaluated based on the total weight of batteries collected per student. Thanks to the unwavering sup- port of participating schools, over 3 tonnes of batteries were collected, making a significant impact on environmental sus- tainability and the health of Malta's community. GreenPak provided battery bins to schools and covered the costs of collecting the batteries. Their effort not only promoted awareness about proper battery disposal but also contributed to the noble cause of supporting Hospice Malta. Mr Steve Ellul, CEO of Project Green, expressed his enthusi- asm for the success of the 'Bat- teries for Hospice' campaign, stating, "We are thrilled with the overwhelming response and dedication showed by the schools towards a better en- vironment. The collective ef- fort of the students, teachers, and administrators has made a significant difference in safe- guarding our environment and supporting Hospice Malta. We commend the winning school, St. Nicholas College, Bahrija primary school, for their out- standing performance. We want to consult with both the man- agement of the school and the kids themselves to give them an opportunity to decide on the type of greening Project they would like to see in their school." In recognition of their excep- tional achievement, Project Green presented the award to St. Nicholas College, Bahri- ja primary school whose prize consisted of a greening project for the winning school. The presentation ceremony took place at the upcoming state-of- the-art St. Michael Hospice lo- cated in Sta. Venera. The repre- sentatives from Project Green, Hospice Malta, GreenPak Coop Society Ltd., and St. Nicholas College, Bahrija primary school were present to celebrate this momentous occasion. Ms Alexia Demicoli, Chief Re- lations Officer of Hospice Malta, expressed her gratitude, stating, "We extend our heartfelt appre- ciation to GreenPak and Project Green for their continued sup- port in organizing this incredi- ble initiative. The funds raised from the 'Batteries for Hospice' campaign will greatly contrib- ute to the vital services Hospice Malta provides to patients and their families. We applaud the schools and students for their dedication to environmental re- sponsibility and their contribu- tion to our noble cause." Ms Simone Attard, Head of School at St. Nicholas Col- lege, Bahrija primary school, expressed her pride in the stu- dents and staff, stating, "We are honoured to be recognized as the winning school in the 'Bat- teries for Hospice' Schools com- petition.
