NEWS 9 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 12 JULY 2023 THE first half of 2023 con- cluded on a positive note for Malta International Airport as a total of 754,258 passenger movements were registered throughout the month of June. This figure not only repre- sents a substantial increase of 4.5 per cent over the pas- senger traffic handled during same month in 2019, but also marks the end of an encourag- ing quarter for the airport, as June became the third consec- utive month during which the 700,000-passenger mark was reached. Traffic through Malta Inter- national Airport peaked on the 29th of June, as 30,419 de- parting and arriving passengers took advantage of the four-day bridge weekend that coincided with the end of the academic year for most educational insti- tutions in Malta. While seat capacity surpassed 2019 volumes by 1.8 per cent, standing at 873,580 seats, load factor also showed a marked improvement, rising from 84.1 per cent in June 2019 to 86.3 per cent last month. The airport's top five markets remained largely consistent with the previous year. Italy retained the top spot of Malta International Airport's mar- ket leaderboard for June, with a market share of 24.5%, fol- lowed by the United Kingdom, Germany, which regained third position, France and Spain. Year-to-date traffic Malta International Air- port's performance in June brought year-to-date traffic up to 3,434,470 passenger move- ments, exceeding the traffic volumes handled during the first half of 2019 by 5.6 per cent. Over 750,000 passengers travel through Malta airport in June Passenger traffic Jan - June 2023 IN June 2023, the number of final deeds of sale relating to residential property amounted to 978, an 18.1 per cent de- crease when compared to those registered a year earlier, data released by the National Statistics Office shows. The value of these deeds totalled €248.2 million, representing a decrease of 12.0 per cent when compared to the corresponding value recorded in June 2022. In the month under review, 910, or 93.0 per cent, of these final deeds of sale in- volved individual buyers (households), with companies accounting for virtually all the rest. The value of the deeds involving indi- vidual buyers (households) amounted to €186.4 million, equivalent to 75.1 per cent of the total value. Final deeds of sale by district and by locality In June 2023, the highest numbers of final deeds of sale were recorded in the Northern Harbour District and the North- ern District, registering a total of 294 and 185 deeds, respectively. At 96 and 113 deeds, the lowest numbers were recorded in the Western District, and the Gozo and Comino District, respective- ly. The highest number of final deeds of sale were recorded in the following localities: San Pawl Il-Baħar (102), Ħal Qormi (43), Ħaż-Żabbar (38) and Marsaskala (38). The sum of agreements recorded in these local- ities corresponded to 22.6 per cent of the total final deeds of sale registered during June 2023. Q2/2023 In the second quarter of 2023, 2,987 final deeds of sale were registered, an annual decrease of 16.3 per cent. The value of the deeds registered during this period went down by 4.0 per cent over the same quar- ter of the previous year and amounted to €763.5 million. The highest numbers of final deeds of sale were recorded in the localities of San Pawl Il-Baħar (268), Birkirkara (130) and Marsaskala (122). Promise of sale agreements In June 2023, 1,141 promise of sale agree- ments relating to residential property were registered, equivalent to an increase of 5.0 per cent over the previous year. Individual potential buyers (households) accounted for 1,040 or 91.1 per cent, of these agree- ments, while the rest mainly involved companies. Promise of sale agreements by district and by locality The largest number of promise of sale agreements related to residential prop- erties in the Northern Harbour District with 385 agreements, followed by the Northern District with 194 agreements. On the other hand, the lowest figures of promise of sale agreements were not- ed in the Gozo and Comino District, and the Western District, at 114 and 124 agreements, respectively. The highest numbers of promise of sale agreements were recorded in the following localities: San Pawl il-Baħar (84), Birkirkara (56) and Ħal Qormi (47).
