maltatoday | SUNDAY • 23 JULY 2023 10 COMMERCIAL Reaching for the sky in the US ENNIE Awards 2023 for Maltese tabletop roleplaying game Flabbergasted! FLABBERGASTED! a come- dic 1920s TableTop RolePlay- ing Game (TTRPG) created by The Wanderer's Tome has been nominated for 3 ENNIE Awards - Best Art Interior, Best Game and Product of the Year. In the next few weeks, fans will vote for their favour- ite TTRPGs in 22 different categories in the prestigious and internationally recognised ENNIE Awards. The Wanderer's Tome is made up of Maltese sisters Fleur and Chelsea Sciortino. The two have a passion for all manner of tabletop roleplaying games. Together they write, produce, and design lightheart- ed roleplaying content that's comedic, character-driven, and unique in setting. They are also dedicated to creating inclusive and diverse games. Their start- up began in October 2021 when they successfully kickstarted their first tabletop roleplaying game, Flabbergasted! There are now over 4,000 copies in distri- bution in 4 different languages. The ENNIE Awards were first created in 2001 and are awards for role-playing game products and their creators. The Ennie Award Ceremony is hosted at the international gaming con- vention, Gen Con, which takes place in Indianapolis US and sees over 50,000 attendees. These awards are an annual fan-based celebration of excel- lence in tabletop roleplaying gaming which gives game de- signers, writers, and artists the recognition they deserve. The selection process com- prises two rounds. In the first round, publishers submit their products for nomination where five democratically elected judges judge the entries. In the second round, the nominated products are then voted for by the public. The Ennies are unique among gaming awards where judg- es follow a strict set of ethical guidelines which help ensure that the Ennies isn't just a pop- ularity contest by narrowing down hundreds of submissions to only the very best. Only once that shortlist is created, is vot- ing on the final winners open to all. Being nominated for these awards is already an out- standing achievement. Flabbergasted! joins the ranks alongside other major tabletop roleplaying games that have been nominated for these awards, with recogniza- ble names like Dungeons and Dragons, Tales from the Loop, Avatar Legends, and The One Ring. The finalists for the Ennies were announced on July 7th and voting for the winners is running between July 14th till July 23rd. The winners of each category will be announced on August 4th. At the moment the Flabber- gasted Team awaits the results with bated breath! MCAST issues guidance on entry requirements in view of SSC&P changes THE Malta College of Arts, Science, and Technology (MCAST) is issuing informa- tion for applicants following the changed format in this year's Secondary School Cer- tificate and Profile (SSC&P) issued by the Ministry for Edu- cation, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation. MCAST would like to reas- sure prospective students that it will adapt its admissions pro- cess to adjust for the removal of levels per individual subject in the SSC&P. The MCAST entry require- ments 2023/24 refer to Level 3, where individual subjects are compulsory for admission to certain courses. The level will not be indicated for each sub- ject on the SSC&P but the mark obtained will be mapped by the College, using the marking cri- teria established by the Directo- rate for Quality and Standards in Education (DQSE 01/2015). This will ensure that students are provided with the appropri- ate educational pathway. Further Guidance on Entry Requirements and SSC&P Satisfying the specific subject entry requirement is possible through the following two op- tions: SEC O Level result (1-5); or • The 'exam mark' in Year 11 listed in the SSC&P (In line with DQSE 01/2015 Table 4) • Track 3 examination pa- pers: pass mark 55 • Track 2 examination pa- per: pass mark 65 In cases where the SSC&P does not include an 'exam mark' in Year 11, the applica- tion is referred to the MCAST Admissions Board. Applicants are encouraged to contact the MCAST Admis- sions Office for help with their application: Tel: 2398 7888 Email: mcast7888@mcast. edu.mt
