maltatoday | SUNDAY • 20 AUGUST 2023 8 COMMERCIAL Successful 2022-2023 season for Malta Para Swimming THE 6th August 2024 has brought to an end the 2022-2023 season for Maltese Para Swim- ming. Local Para Swimmers con- tinued to participate in swim- ming competitions organised by the Aquatic Sports Association (ASA) of Malta and work con- tinued by the Malta Paralym- pic Committee and its affiliated swimming clubs to grow Para swimming in Malta and to make the sport more accessible to youth with physical disabilities. Swimmers Maja Theuma and Vladsylava Kravchenko contin- ued to proudly wave the Mal- tese flag both locally and inter- nationally. Theuma, who swims for Exiles SC under coaches Tim Hartley and Edward Caru- ana Dingli, participated at every time trial organised by the ASA of Malta during the season, achieving consistent results. She also competed at two edi- tions of the World Para Swim- ming World Series. In March she participated in the World Series event in Sheffield where amongst her four events, she swam a new personal best and national record in the 200m freestyle S6, swimming this in a time of 4:46.11. She then com- peted at the Berlin edition of the same event in May, where she improved on her 400m freestyle S6 personal best and national record with a time of 9:53.89. She went on to improve on this result a week later at the 7th Time Trial when she swam a time of 9:51.31. Maltese two-time Paralym- pian Kravchenko ended the season by representing Malta at the World Para Swimming World Championships taking place in Manchester. Kravchen- ko, who trains at Loughborough University, competed in 50m backstroke S5 and placed 16th in her category. She was accom- panied by Katie Roberts as the team leader and coach, under the guidance of Para Swimming Lead for Team Malta, Edward Caruana Dingli from Exiles SC. Kravchenko has recently been appointed to the Athletes' Council of the International Paralympic Committee ahead of the 2023 IPC Athletes' Fo- rum in South Korea, becoming the first Maltese delegate to hold a position within the inter- national governing body of the Paralympic movement. Theu- ma, as Athlete Representative within the Malta Paralympic Committee, was also invited to attend the IPC Athlete's Forum. Both Maltese swimmers were given the opportunity to meet other Athlete Representatives and work with them to create more opportunities for interna- tional Para athletes. To find out more about Pa- ra swimming opportunities in Malta, please visit https://www. maltapara.com Vladyslava Kravchenko at the World Para Swimming World Championships, Manchester, August 2023 KampuSajf at MCAST – line-up announced THE Malta College of Arts, Science, and Technology (MCAST) has announced the line-up for the first edition of KampuSajf. The arts festival is powered by APS Bank under the artistic direction of Stjanu Debono. The line-up prioritis- es indigenous artistic work in Malta and will serve as an al- ternative platform to different art forms, including music, lit- erature, contemporary dance, improvised theatre, and ani- mated film. The festival will be held from 25 until the 28 August at MCAST's Paola Campus and on the 30 August at MCAST's Mosta Campus. Five different productions will be held during the event, • 'Zizza u Maria' is a pro- ject covering songs from local alternative bands and musicians. • 'Etikett', by Teatru Malta & Moveo Dance Compa- ny • The 'Hinge Project', by Jes Psaila and Sean Borg, is a concert that will pre- view four new • compositions to be re- corded as an EP during August. • 'Animation Showcase Malta' is an animation showcasing different short animated movies • from Maltese filmmakers covering different ani- mation genres, including children's animation. • 'Il-Frammenti ta' Saffo' is a multi-disciplinary pro- ject highlighting translat- ed texts from Ancient Greek to Maltese translated by Warren Bartolo. Stjanu Debono, KampuSa- jf Artistic Director, said, 'For this first edition of KampuSa- jf, we wanted to keep Malta's grassroots at the heart of this campus festival. This edition prioritised work native to the Maltese islands or done by Maltese artists. This created an alternative platform for artists to showcase their work from various genres, including mu- sic, theatre, dance, and film.'
