2 NEWS maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 23 AUGUST 2023 2 DURING the first six months of 2023, a total of 1,062 persons were involved in a non-fatal accident at work, figures released by the Na- tional Statistics Office show. The number of claims in respect of non-fatal accidents at work in the first half of 2023 decreased by 102, or 8.8%, compared to the corresponding period in 2022. A decrease in fatal work acci- dents was also recorded, with only one in the first six months of 2023, compared to nine in 2022. The majority of these accidents occurred in the manufactur- ing sector (14%), while another 13.5% occurred in the trans- portation and storage sector followed by the human health and social work activities sector (12.3%). 32.8% of those involved in an accident at work were absent from work for three days or less, while those absent from work for 21 days or more amounted to 18.5%. The largest share of accidents at work during the reference pe- riod involved persons working in elementary occupations (22.1%) followed by craft and related trades workers (21.4%). 29.6% of the accidents in- volved persons in the 35 to 44 age-bracket. Nearly one-third of all record- ed accidents affected the Back, including spine and vertebra in the back. Wounds and superfi- cial injuries, and dislocations, sprains and strains were the most common types of injuries, amounting to 666 and 308 cases respectively. Figures show that during the first half of 2023, 30% of work- place accidents took place in en- terprises with 500 or more em- ployees. 1,062 workplace accidents in first six months of 2023 No more live performances during Malta Eurovision final KARL AZZOPARDI THE final of the Eurovision song contest will not be a live performance, but a live-on-tape performance which will be streamed to audiences watching the music com- petition, according to new rules announced on Tuesday. According to the Eurovision's new regulations announced on Tuesday, all (12) songs shall be per- formed live-on-tape on a special dedicated stage with a recorded backing track complying with the compe- tition requirements. The recording to the live-on-tape performance will be shot within a 60-minute session, and during the allocated time, three takes are recorded. One is se- lected. Each performance may consist of a maximum six artists on stage. Small props are allowed according to the size of stage, only under the direction of the MESC Production team. Final sound mixing will be operated by PBS to en- sure uniform levels and quality of sound. The lead singer(s) of the selected song shall perform live on stage only.
