NEWS 14 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 20 SEPTEMBER 2023 DIN l-Art Ħelwa is organising a photographic competition as part of its remit to improve edu- cation on the importance of the natural environment. The competition is being sponsored by Bank of Valletta. "The competition will be open for children between 10 and 16 years. As Education Officer, I have worked extensively with children of this age, and have found it to be a very influential phase of their development," DLĦ volunteer and competi- tion organiser Stanley Farrugia Randon said. "The best way to get them to appreciate the beauty and fra- gility of our environment is to expose them to it, giving them the opportunity and the time to see its complexity." The theme of the photographs will be flora and fauna, and they must be taken at Majjistral Park. DLĦ is part of the Herit- age Parks Federation manage- ment which runs the Park. There will be two categories of photographs for submis- sions: one for flora and one for fauna. A prize of €300 is to be awarded to each of the winning entries for the two photograph- ic categories, and €200 for the second-placed entrants. Partic- ipants are also encouraged to send a photo of themselves in the park. Entries must be submitted by email to admin@dinlarthelwa. org with a copy sent to stan- leyfarrugiarandon@gmail.com by not later than 30 December 2023. The judging panel will be composed of Din l-Art Ħelwa and Bank of Valletta members. Photography exhibition launched by DLH and BOV Lidl Malta invests €650,000 in digitalisation, introduces electronic price tags Din L-Art Helwa and Bank of Valletta join forces to encourage environmental awareness LIDL Malta has introduced digital price tags in its stores, replacing paper ones, with an investment of around €650,000 for its 10 stores. Electronic price tags look like traditional labels, but when you look closely, it turns out that they are small screens dis- playing the price and other in- formation about the product. This initiative will result in substantial paper savings, un- derlining once again the deter- mination of Lidl Malta to re- duce its environmental impact. Mark Vassallo, Finance Man- ager of Lidl Malta said Lidl is a highly dynamic company that directs its actions towards the future. "When thinking of digitalisa- tion in retail, people thoughts immediately go to online shop- ping, overlooking the fact that the digital transition of the sector also entails projects like this one, revitalising the phys- ical shopping space, creating value, and enhancing the shop- ping experience," he said. "This investment will ena- ble us to be even closer to our customers, facilitating a more transparent, clearer, and faster communication." Lidl has successfully imple- mented this new system across all its Maltese stores, demon- strating the company's com- mitment to modernisation. The new electronic price tags utilise an ESL (Electronic Shelf Labels) mechanism that wire- lessly connects to a centralised system. All labels are directly connect- ed to a management system, therefore prices and product information changes are auto- matically transferred to e-price tags, almost in real time. With this automation, the ef- fort involved in printing and changing prices is reduced, making processes more effi- cient.
