maltatoday | SUNDAY • 24 SEPTEMBER 2023 4 CULTURE Spazju Kreattiv Programme 2023-24 launch SPAZJU Kreattiv in Valletta has just unveiled its highly antic- ipated 2023-2024 programme that promises to take us on a breathtaking journey into vari- ous aspects of creativity. A new season that builds on the strate- gic pillars of artistic excellence, community engagement and in- ternationalisation, having over 520 events encompassing 15 di- verse creative forms, all brought to life by more than 350 collab- orating artists. Spazju Kreattiv doesn't merely organise events; it blends live theatre, art exhi- bitions, film screenings, music performances, science and tech- nology, dance, and various other creative expressions. This cap- tivating mix delves deeply in- to all sorts of themes, sparking discussions that will continue long after the final applause has ended. Spazju Kreattiv continues to uphold its name as Malta's Na- tional Centre for Creativity. In- viting both emerging talents and seasoned artists to embark on this artistic adventure. It's not just about passive observation; it's about active participation, immersive experiences, and transcending boundaries to em- brace a global perspective. Unlike other cinemas that pri- oritise mainstream blockbusters, our arthouse cinema offers a di- verse selection of films that span genres, periods, and cultures. From independent productions to thought-provoking foreign films, it provides moviegoers with an opportunity to embark on a cinematic journey of dis- covery and enrichment. Oth- er than this, the coexistence of visual and performance art with- in the programme not only en- riches the artistic landscape but also encourages a holistic under- standing of art's role in shaping culture, sparking creativity and promoting social change. To- gether, they create a dynamic and multidimensional artistic vi- sion that resonates with diverse audiences and addresses the complexities of contemporary society. This season, the programme is thoughtfully designed to cater to every generation, ensuring that from seasoned senior citizens to vibrant young adults, everyone finds a place at the creative table. For children, there are enchant- ing shows and engaging activ- ities under the umbrella of the ŻiguŻajg Season. Furthermore, through our Artists-in-Resi- dency strand, international art- ists will collaborate with local communities around Malta and Gozo, creating bridges of cultur- al connection that resonate far and wide. Spazju Kreattiv has also been working on enhancing its ar- chive by organising and digitis- ing our art collection into a com- prehensible database. Through careful categorisation, photogra- phy, and data entry, we aim to make the materials accessible for research while ensuring proper preservation. Over the last few months, we have witnessed not only the revival of the past but also the birth of an unyielding commitment to safeguard the artistic legacy of Spazju Kreattiv. The archive stands proudly as proof of creativity's essence, giv- ing us a glimpse into the unique talents of artists from the past and present. In his address, the Minister for National Heritage, Arts, and Lo- cal Government, Owen Bonnici emphasised that by promoting local talent and cultural expres- sions, a deep sense of belonging is fostered. Bonnici commented, "Culture plays a fundamental role in shaping a country's iden- tity and is often seen as the soul of a society. As each generation contributes to its own experi- ences and perspectives the cul- tural fabric becomes more intri- cate and layered" The Chairman of Fondazz- joni Kreattività, Rupert Cefai, highlighted the importance and dedication to providing oppor- tunities and steadfast support. "As we enter this new chapter, we remain dedicated to provid- ing opportunities and support to those who will continue to give shape and strengthen Malta's creative sector in the following year," Cefai commented. Now in his fourth season as Ar- tistic Director, Daniel Azzopardi explained how Spazju Kreattiv continues to be a key purveyor of inclusive debates and com- pelling creative and social differ- ences. He added that "this new pro- gramme reflects our evolving strategy for the future, with an enhanced commitment to events' curation that promotes quality and offers collaborators' opportunities to strengthen their skills within a professional and stimulating environment." Spazju Kreattiv's 2023-2024 programme is an open invitation to a place where creativity knows no bounds, where community, creativity and cultural diversity intertwine seamlessly.
