Administrative data provided by Jobsplus show that, over a period of one year, the labour supply (excluding part-tim- ers) increased by 8.0 per cent, reaching 270,590. This was mainly attributed to a year-on-year increase in the full-time registered employ- ment (20,029) and a decrease in registered unemployment (45). Registered full-time employment During May 2023, Adminis- trative and support service ac- tivities (NACE 77-82, 3,751) and Accommodation and food service activities (NACE 55-56, 3,343) contributed mostly to the increase in employment, when compared to May 2022. Registered full-time employ- ment in the private sector went up by 19,919 persons to 218,445. Public sector full-time employment increased by 110 persons to 51,229. The number of persons regis- tered as full-time self-employed rose by 708 when compared to May 2022, while the number of persons registered as employ- ees increased by 19,321. Full-time employment for males and females went up by 8.4 per cent and 7.4 per cent, respectively over 2022 levels. Registered part-time employment Registered part-time employ- ment in May 2023 increased by 7.4 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2022. The sectors that mostly con- tributed to the overall increase were Professional, scientific and technical activities (NACE 69-75, 900) followed by Trans- portation and storage sector (NACE 49-53, 808). The number of part-timers who also held a full-time job amounted to 40,281 up by 10.4 per cent, when compared to the corresponding month in 2022. Employed persons whose part-time job was their primary occupation totalled 33,528 up by 3.9 per cent when compared to the same month in 2022. Monthly full-time and part-time as a primary job Registered full-time employment up by 8.0 per cent in May 2023 DURING the third quarter of 2023, sea transport between Malta and Gozo registered in- creases in passengers, vehicles and trips when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2022. Between July and September 2023, a total of 11,840 trips were carried out, carrying a to- tal of 1,977,673 passengers. July was the busiest month re- cording a total of 4,073 trips or 34.4 per cent of the total trips for the quarter. Sea transport between Mgarr and Cirkewwa A total of 1,711,887 passen- gers travelled between Mġarr and Ċirkewwa during the third quarter of 2023, an increase of 7.6 per cent when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2022. The highest number of pas- sengers was recorded in Au- gust – 597,290 or 34.9 per cent of the total for the quarter. When compared to the corre- sponding quarter of the previ- ous year, the number of vehi- cles increased by 1.6 per cent, totalling 580,346. The number of trips during the third quarter amounted to 9,203, an increase of 0.7 per cent over the same period in 2022. July registered the highest number of trips – 3,104 or 33.7 per cent of the total trips for the quarter. During January-September 2023, passenger traffic origi- nating from Ċirkewwa was bus- iest on Fridays and Saturdays, and vehicle traffic originating from Ċirkewwa was also bus- iest on Fridays and Saturdays. On the other hand, from the Mġarr terminal, passenger traf- fic was busiest on Sundays and Saturdays, while vehicle traffic was heaviest on Sundays and Monday. Sea transport between Mgarr and Valletta During the third quarter of 2023, a total of 2,637 trips were carried out, carrying a total of 265,786 passengers. When compared to the same quarter in 2022, the number of trips increased by 14.9 per cent and the number of passengers increased by 33.5 per cent. July registered the highest number of trips – 969 or 36.7 per cent of the total trips for the quarter, while August reg- istered the highest number of passengers – 96,202 or 36.2 per cent for the quarter.
