maltatoday | SUNDAY • 22 OCTOBER 2023 5 CULTURE APS Teatru Unplugged sets the stage for their 24th edition APS Teatru Unplugged perfor- mances have become a staple of the Maltese calendar. This year continues into its 24th edition with more talent from around the islands and is sure to excite and delight all in at- tendance. This year will bring a blend of sounds that will of- fer something for everyone and is certainly a great addition to the autumn lineup of cultural events in Malta. Originally co-founded by the pairing of Nirvana Azzopardi and Jonathan Shaw, APS Teat- ru Unplugged is one of the most anticipated and long-running events in the country. Start- ing in 1998, this two-evening event has always been a hub for talented artists of all kinds expressing the current musical flavors of the island. Since her passing in 2013, the event has become a memorial for the late Nirvana Azzopar- di as well as a celebration of Maltese musical talent. This year, however, another change is coming to the production as Jonathan Shaw has passed on his position of producer to Julia Hickey, who will be co-producing the event with Teatru Manoel. Julia has been involved with the event since 2013 and has been taken under the wing of Jonathan as well as artistic director Renzo Spiteri. Both of whom are confident that she will maintain the spirit and atmosphere of the event. This year's edition also wel- comes the esteemed Colin Fitz as the master of ceremonies for the event. Famous in both print and broadcasting, Colin will guide the audience through the evening with the unique style of wit and humour that he is known for. As compere, he will introduce the acts as well as entertain with his own com- mentary throughout the night. His presentation will hold together an ensemble of new- er and more well-known local acts with musical genres that span from alt rock to more catchy pop tunes, all of course holding the event's quintes- sential acoustic theme. Per- forming at this year's APS Te- atru Unplugged will be Dario Genovese, Djun, Family3 fea- turing Jackie Pace Delicata, Chasing Pandora, and Moira Stafrace. As with other years since 2013, this edition of APS Tea- tru Unplugged acts as a memo- rial to the memory of co-found- er Nirvana Ciavola Azzopardi. Moreover, this year marks the ten-year anniversary of her tragic death after her fight with breast cancer. Donations collected during the APS Tea- tru Unplugged concerts will go to Hospice Malta to continue aiding their endeavors to help those in need. Donations can be given in person at the event or online at https://hospice- malta.org/product/teatru-un- plugged-donation/ APS Teatru Unplugged will kick off on the 3rd and 4th of November at the prestigious Teatru Manoel that has hosted the event from the very start and now also acts as co-pro- ducer of the production. As one of the most highly awaited events of the Maltese cultural calendar, tickets go fast so grab your seats while you can. The event kicks off on the 3rd of November at 8pm and plays once more on the 4th starting at the same time. Tickets can be booked on the official Tea- tru Manoel website https://tea- trumanoel.mt/, over the phone by calling +356 2124 6389, and in person at the theatre, which can be found at Triq it-Teatru l-Antik, Valletta.
