maltatoday | SUNDAY • 27 MARCH 2022 OPINION 3 LETTERS & EDITORIAL maltatoday | SUNDAY • 19 NOVEMBER 2023 Mikiel Galea Letters & Clarifications Better travel logistics next time THE organisation of the Sigma i-gam- ing event at the ex-Marsa shipbuilding site was undoubtedly a success, judg- ing from the number of delegates it attracted and the feedback given by participants. But I would have expected better logistics when it comes to the transportation of delegates to and from the event, given that it was being held next to one of Malta's busiest junctions. The number of cabs waiting to pick up delegates during rush hour traffic along Aldo Moro Road caused massive con- gestion at the junction that left thou- sands of motorists fuming all the way to Regional Road and Mrieħel. Given the extent of the shipbuilding site, a space for drop-off and pick-up should have been identified within the site itself to avoid the main road being blocked off. Furthermore, given that the site is next to the sea and has a us- able dock, the organisers should have thought of organising boat taxis to Valletta, Sliema and St Julian's, where most delegates were probably staying. I just hope that next year the organ- isers keep these suggestions in mind when planning their event, which I wish every success. P. Muscat Marsaskala Thank you Graffitti I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Moviment Graffitti for the action its members took to stop the de- struction of 12 majestic trees alongside the Mosta church. Seeing these young people stand up to be counted in the face of a sense- less decision taken unanimously by the Mosta local council fills me with hope. The trees that were going to be relocated may not be native to Malta but what harm were they doing? They have been there for all the time that I have been living in Mosta, more than 20 years, and to my knowledge neither the mayor, nor the council ever said that they were causing damage. Had it not been for the selfless action of the Graffitti activists the trees would have vanished just as fast as they were heavily pruned. Thank you Graffitti for being there for us residents, for our children and for those who are to come after us. Your action stopped the coun- cil's madness. And if the council wants to make an act of contrition it should bestow on Graffitti's Andre Callus rec- ognition as a worthy citizen of Mosta, given that he lives there. J. Fenech Mosta Sweating it out for Christmas IT just felt weird last week decorating my house for Christmas with sweat coming down my forehead. With an October that saw the lowest rainfall in more than 100 years and a Novem- ber that started as if summer was still around, I really cannot understand those who do not believe climate change is a reality.
