Tel: +35677484511 THE Malta Financial Services Authori- ty (MFSA) hosted a workshop on crisis preparedness in the banking industry. e workshop, which brought togeth- er key players from the banking sec- tor, aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the Resolution Framework, a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of banking operations. is event marks a significant step in promoting transparency, collaboration, and preparedness in the banking indus- try, setting the stage for a resilient and robust financial future. Christian Buttigieg, Head of Resolu- tion at the MFSA, gave a glimpse of up- coming plans, outlining the Authority's Resolution priorities for 2024. ese priorities include further development of the resolution framework, resolvabil- ity assessments, testing through simu- lations, and the implementation of SRB and EBA guidelines. Efforts will also be made in terms of strengthening cooper- ation with European authorities and lo- cal stakeholders, as well as participating in discussions related to the Crisis Man- agement and Deposit Insurance. "Our resolution priorities are driv- en by the Authority' s strategy, in line with the work plans of other European Authorities, especially the Single Res- olution Board. We remain commit- ted to transparency and collaboration throughout this process," he said. In August 2023, production in construction fell by 1.1% in the euro area and by 0.8% in the EU. In September 2023 compared with Sep- tember 2022, production in construction de- creased by 0.3% in the euro area and increased by 0.1% in the EU. Monthly comparison In the euro area in September 2023, com- pared with August 2023, civil engineering in- creased by 1.5% and building construction by 0.2%. In the EU, civil engineering increased by 1.1% and building construction by 0.3%. Among Member States for which data are available, the highest monthly increases in production in construction were recorded in Slovenia (+7.4%), Poland (+3.6%) and Slovakia (+2.3%). The largest decreases were observed in Hungary and Romania (both -1.9%), Portu- gal (-1.2%) and Austria (-0.9%). Annual comparison In the euro area in September 2023, com- pared with September 2022, building con- struction decreased by 0.3%, while civil engi- neering increased by 2.5%. In the EU civil engineering increased by 2.8% and building construction decreased by 0.1%. Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in Slovenia (+32.1%), Poland (+13.8%) and Ro- mania (+10.9%). The largest annual decreases in production in construction were observed in Finland (-6.2%), Spain (-6.1%) and Hungary (-6.0%). EU sees 0.5% increase in production in construction in September New Registrar General of shipping and seamen DR Ivan Tabone has been appointed Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen for Transport Malta within the Ministry for Transport, Infra- structure and Capital Projects. e appointment comes into effect on Friday 1st December 2023. Tabone graduated as Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta before furthering his legal studies by reading for a Masters Degree in Maritime Law at the IMO Internation- al Maritime Law Institute (IMLI). He occupied the position of Deputy Chief Officer within the Merchant Shipping Di- rectorate of the Authority for Transport in Malta for the past seven years. Tabone possesses a strong dedication to the human el- ement within the maritime sector and has held the posi- tion of Head of the Seafarer Department. In this role, he oversees critical responsibili- ties such as seafarer training, certification, and welfare. He has repeatedly represent- ed his organisation on interna- tional platforms, including the International Maritime Or- ganisation (IMO), the Euro- pean Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), the European Com- mission, and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
