NEWS 14 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 3 DECEMBER 2023 AS local TV viewers continue to be spoilt for choice for TV con- tent, GO is proud to announce the remarkable success its local content is having on its stream- ing platform, Tokis. Boasting an ever-growing audience of 5.4 mil- lion views monthly, the platform has become the channel of choice for those seeking captivating Maltese stories and talent. "The surge in viewership on Tokis comes thanks to the exten- sive library offering thousands of hours of content. The numbers speak volumes, where viewers are increasingly embracing the expe- rience we are offering them," says Ryan Mark Mifsud, GO's Con- tent and Digital media Manager. Tokis has solidified its position as the third most-watched chan- nel on our platform, consistently holding viewership during after- noon hours. This data under- scores the local audience's strong affinity for homegrown content and their unwavering trust in Maltese talent and language. "The success of local content on Tokis serves as a resounding af- firmation of our bold move to in- vest in such content and help the industry overcome the challenges associated with being a small is- land. It is a testament to the resil- ience and vibrancy of our cultural storytelling, with the audience demonstrating a clear preference for narratives that reflect their own experiences," added Ryan Mark. As the festive season approach- es, Tokis will not only celebrate its success but will also be offer- ing exciting Christmas specials namely Tokis in a Box, a limited edition exclusively branded one- year subscription to Tokis, prom- ising endless entertainment and joy throughout the year. GO has also produced a Tokis Calendar which can be collected from GO's retail outlet against a donation, for which the proceeds will go towards Puttinu Cares. With 5.4 million monthly viewers, Tokis is third most watched channel on GO's TV platform Local content triumphs on GO's Tokis channel IN a celebration of ingenuity and com- mitment to sustainability, the team rep- resenting JA Malta emerges victorious at the prestigious Girls Go Circular Robotics Competition at the Women and Girls in STEM Forum in Brussels. The winning team, "Rocky CO.2," com- prised three exceptional students from different educational institutions: Antonia Ciappara from St Nicholas College, Dingli Secondary School, Dingli; Sofiya Chuzhda from G.F Abela Junior College, Msida; and Elizabeth Kovrigina from IES El Getares, Algeciras, Cádiz, Spain. Girls Go Circular is an international competition coordinated by EIT RawMa- terials, and focuses on promoting women and girls in the field of STEM. The com- petition witnessed fierce competition from talented young minds across the globe. The winning innovation: Rocky CO.2's robot prototype Rocky CO.2's triumph can be attributed to their ground-breaking robot prototype designed to tackle a pressing environmen- tal issue. The team showcased their ded- ication to finding sustainable solutions, demonstrating how technology can be harnessed for positive environmental im- pact. After learning that removing Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere was a very effective way of decreasing the greenhouse effect and climate change, the team from Malta, created a robot which increases the rate of a reaction that naturally removes carbon dioxide from the air using a pro- cess called enhanced weathering. Sharing their experience of the pro- gramme, the girls said that "Although challenging at times, the Girls Go Circu- lar programme was a unique educational experience. Throughout the journey, not only have we learnt teamwork skills such as effective two-way communication and strategic allocation of tasks, but also other important skills such as video production and editing, 3D model design, and not to mention the extensive information about the circular economy and sustainability. Moreover, the programme has certainly sparked our interest to further our stud- ies into current environmental issues, and thus we will keep striving and advocating for a cleaner planet.
