15 NEWS maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 20 DECEMBER 2023 BAT Malta joins forces with Coast is Clear, collects 160+ kilos of litter BRITISH American Tobacco Malta (BAT) partnered with the non-governmental organization Coast is Clear and conducted a clean up activity to support the upkeep of natural habitats and public spaces, at the Sa Maison woodland. The initiative, a part of BAT Malta's commitment to Envi- ronmental, Social, and Gov- ernance (ESG) principles, was a collaborative effort aimed at fostering environmental stewardship and support to the local community. This en- deavour reflects BAT Malta's ongoing dedication to sustain- able practices and corporate responsibility. During the cleanup, the BAT Malta team collected several bags, amounting to over 160 kilograms of litter, emphasiz- ing the Company's commit- ment to preserving the local environment. Clint Bajada, Country Man- ager of BAT Malta, expressed his enthusiasm for the initia- tive, stating, "We are proud to join hands with Coast is Clear for this impactful project. Our commitment to ESG principles is ingrained in our company's ethos, and initiatives like these allow us to actively contribute to the betterment of our local society, in line with our pur- pose to build A Better Tomor- row." The cleanup effort was con- ducted in collaboration with Mark Galea Pace, Founder of Coast is Clear, who remarked, "Partnering with BAT Malta for this cleanup underscores the power of collective action in preserving our natural sur- roundings. This collaboration sets an example for corporate engagement in environmental conservation and community welfare." This initiative is part of BAT Malta's broader ESG strategy, building upon previous activ- ities such as tree planting, en- hancing public recreation ar- eas, installing public ashtrays, and supporting various social NGOs. This ground-breaking endeav- our addresses crucial issues sur- rounding the well-being of our furry companions and sheds light on the challenges faced by dog sanctuaries in Malta. In response to the escalating problem of dog over-popula- tion in Malta, Toontuloon aims to raise awareness and propose effective solutions to the ev- er-growing issue of overcrowd- ed sanctuaries. The documentary will fea- ture insightful interviews with dog experts, enthusiasts, and dedicated volunteers, offering a comprehensive view of the challenges and emphasizing the importance of adopting from local sanctuaries. In addition, Ħbieb Tal-Klieb? goes beyond the pressing issue of dog over-population to ex- plore various facets of Maltese dog culture. The documentary aims to provide a comprehensive un- derstanding of the relationship between dogs and the local community. Ħbieb Tal-Klieb? delves into how dogs are integrated into Maltese culture, traditions, and daily life. The film also delves into the deep bond between hu- mans and dogs in Malta. Through heart-warming sto- ries and personal experiences, the film aims to capture the emotional connection and com- panionship that dogs bring to the lives of individuals and fam- ilies in Malta. In addition, many dogs serve important roles be- yond being companions, such as in search and rescue, therapy, or as service animals. Ħbieb Tal-Klieb? discusses the various ways in which dogs con- tribute to society beyond being pets. Finally, focusing on respon- sible pet ownership, the docu- mentary addresses the impor- tance of providing proper care, nutrition, and veterinary atten- tion to ensure the well-being of dogs in Malta. By exploring these various as- pects, Ħbieb Tal-Klieb? aims to paint a comprehensive picture of the role and significance of dogs in Maltese society, foster- ing a greater understanding and appreciation for our loyal com- panions. With a runtime of 60 min- utes, Ħbieb Tal-Klieb? is set to broadcast on January 3rd on ONE TV.
